Cruising With A Service Dog....everything You Ever Wanted To Know!

Recommended Posts

Still here .... Hope "you know who" and her pal are having a great time and I pray "the box" was in the right place or dawg help them! :D;)

I'm still waiting to hear about my application for puppy walking, it does take some time, but hopefully soon! I'm going to a fund raising coffee morning this weekend, so I'm hoping to meet some local puppy walkers and get a chance to speak to them and, of course, meet their puppies then.

DKD, How's Davis doing? :).

Gosh Nancy it sounds like you hardly have a minute to yourself! :)

Hopefully you will have your own puppy soon. Davis changes from week to week. He is alot better with stairs and surfaces now. Noise doesn't bother him at all. He met the Easter Bunny and had no problem with costumes. Friday he goes in to be neutered. It will be interesting to see how he changes after that. We are hoping for him to calm down a bit. We have him till next May so we will see what happens.

Aaaah, he met the Easter Bunny - any pics??? ;):).

I hope all goes well today with his "boy op" - I can't remember if it made any difference to our boy when he has his "boy op" - like most "boys", he does on occasion still think he can impress the girls!

Have a great weekend everyone - hope you're all having better weather than we have here - it's so foggy and miserable!

Hi Darlings, I'm home!

The Crown Princess is a beautiful ship. She's huge! The crew is everything from "over-the-top" friendly to down-right rude [just like the passengers!] We really had the myriad but, you know me.......I don't stand for much of the latter and insist on the former!!!!! I had a woman who asked me to leave the elevator because she didn't like dogs......I profusely apologized but told her that Horton had as much right to be there as she did. She said, "then I'll have to get out", I said, "okay!"

There was a lady who had an "over-sized", "aged" Pug, who she pushed around in a baby stroller and claimed that he was a "seizure-alert" dog....."yeh, right!" Ridiculous, everyone was talking about him. Poor Princess has to get fooled by idiots like this woman and "Rosemary's Baby!"

Horton is such a "doll", he's such a great dog! He's so darn handsome! And, loves being around people and wants to help me every chance he gets. He's a true "over-achiever" and I love him for it! He's really that little boy; who when he's good.....he's very, very good and when he's naughty.....well, you know!

Sunshine, have a wonderful cruise with your man, enjoy every moment that you both have worked so hard for!

DKD, just whom are you referring to? Please tell Davis I'm sorry for his upcoming surgery and hope that all goes well!

Nancy, "snap out of it!"

Fairbourne, hang in there......it will be your turn one day. I'm so happy for you and for your lucky pup!

mommajamma, thank you for caring.

I can't wait for my next cruise! Again, I met so many wonderful folks. Who knew exactly who I was......Lurker's were everywhere!

The potty-box was located in a crew closet - way down the hall from our cabin so I had them move it to the stair well, near our cabin. It was filled with Cyprus mulch which is absolutely perfect. Love it, when the ships get it almost perfect!

Welcome home, Roz! :)

Have you made any plans for 2015? I just booked the Noordam May 9, 2015, 7-day RT Vancouver (Alaska, Inside Passage). The 4-day coastal from San Diego to Vancouver (departing May 5th) has not been announced yet but that's how I'll get to Vancouver. Just have to fly home from YVR or take the shuttle to SEA. Did this 11-day B2B last year on the Zuiderdam. Think about it. ;)

Hi Roz! Welcome home to you and Horton!

There's an interesting thread on the Celebrity section of this forum about a couple who traveled recently with an assistance dog, a total fake from the sound of it, because they not only allowed him to bark in the cabin and relieve himself in public areas, but walked away after such incidents, leaving the crew to clean up the carpet. Unbelievable.

The good thing was how many comments were supportive of real service dogs.

Your cruise sounds amazing. You're such a great planner and know exactly how to have the most fun!

I can't cruise in May. My April cruising is pushing the work envelope as far as I can. As it is, I'm going to be swamped when I get back tomorrow and will be playing a lot of "catch-up!" But, it was sure worth it.

When I'm onboard a cruise....I can't stop smiling for a week!

Thank you. I'm going over to Celebrity and see what happened. We had a woman who was pushing an overweight Pug in a stroller. It would yip-yap and she would tap on the hood and it would stop but "really" what did she think she was doing?

Obviously, she had a Vet who filled out the paper work, not knowing how this would affect people like me with a legitimate Service Dog! :(

I plan to contact Princess and let them know how they were fooled!

Welcome back Roz! This board is not the same when you are away. Even we lurkers notice a huge difference. We love all the stories you bring back with you!

Also wanted to ask if anyone on here would be interested in voting on the Mobility Awareness Month website to help my daughter Diana try to win an accessible van. Each email address can register and vote once a day until the contest ends next Month. And if a trivia question is answered correctly the vote counts as two that day. I have asked all my current and former co-workers, and Diana has enlisted all of her friends as well as her computer literate grandparents. (My folks don't own a computer, nor do they even know how to turn one on.) At any rate, if you would like to help the website is: http://www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com/entrant/diana-stocksdale-blue-springs-mo/.

Everybody have a great week!

Welcome home Roz and Horton. So glad you had a lovely time and I did laugh so much when I read the story of the woman in the elevator - it was the "okay" from you, I can just imagine how it was said! LOL!!! :D

Puppy kisses - oh yes, lots of them! I went to a Guide Dogs for the Blind coffee morning, and oh my I met so many very nice people and their dogs from young puppies, about 8 weeks old (delicious yellow boy and beautiful but shy black girl Labradorsl), to puppies half way through their puppy walking (about 7 months old German Sheperds - very big dogs!), to working guide dogs with their person and then a couple of retired dogs - all grey muzzles, but so couthy (gentle, kind) and happy to lie down under a chair and just watch the puppy shenanigans going on! They had gone back to their original puppy walkers when they retired.

We met other puppy walkers (raisers) and they made us so welcome, some of them were on their 10th puppy! So I've a long way to go! They invited us to go along to a regular class where the puppy walkers in the area come together and work with their puppies of all ages - they were so encouraging and I am so glad we went along to this event - it makes me even more keen to work with them. Can't wait! :)

Mornin' all: Beckie, in the process of signing up. Waiting for the email password. Ekkk, why is it slow as a snail when I have to get ready for work! If I don't get it soon, will finish up tonight.

Must be busy! Mine came through almost instantly but then you're all still sleepy byebyes when I'm up and about in the morning!

Now Nancy, if you need help with the trivia question, you can always "post" a friend! lol! ;):D

DKD - how is Davis after his boy op?

I went along to a puppy walkers class today and met this little one who is a cross lab retriever with German shepherd, hence the white marks on her paws and legs. ( I've tried to upload a couple of photos in one post, but it won't let me!, so that's why they're in different posts.

fairbourne,

You would never even know he had anything done. He never missed a beat with food or playing. One of the trainers saw him the other day and said he needed to put on some weight. He is now eating

4 cups a day. Hopefully with the extra food and his "boy op", he

can put on some weight. It's great that you went to the class

and got to meet some of the folks and their pups. It helps to build

a network when you become one of the walkers. Good Luck!!

And this is Carlo, he's 7 months old and is going to be a big lad! :). He sat very nicely. I has met him and his "mummy" at the coffee morning, so I was very happy to see them again.

I also met a fully trained guide dog, Dylan, who was back with the trainers as he needed to lose a bit of weight! I was able to work with him during the puppy class and what a delight that was with commands to him immediately obeyed - which of course they ought to have been as he is about 6 years old and very experienced! He was also very good at being the "distraction dog" while the puppies were learning to walk past and not react to other dogs, during training! It was like having a feather in my hand holding his leash and walking with him:) I didn't get the chance to get a photo of him, but he was a very handsome lab retriever cross with a wavy golden coat (most of which came home with me on my black trousers!)

This is not formal training for the dogs, just socialising and basic skills and of course for many of them, lots of fun as they may be the only dog in their house.
