We booked a cruise on this ship. I have been on the mercury and while the ship was excellent the crowd was just too old for us. String quartets and a singer doing Carpenter songs to a empty bar was funny to see. I'm wondering if anyone has sailed on this ship before can give me some insights while I still have the time to cancel if this is another senior we all go to sleep by ten cruise. :)

A lot depends on the itinerary, length of cruise, etc. It's not so much the ship that draws passengers of a certain age, it's where it's going.

We are sailing from Barcelona on a ten day cruise. Last time it was a seven day cruise to Alaska.

I think if you do not enjoy the music (of all kinds) dining as opposed to buffet & the ambiance of cruising generally this may not be for you.. however if it is Spring break, school holiday or a shorter cruise you may hit the type of demographics you prefer... We did the 5 day in April & it was very nice--but fairly quiet

Was the 7-day Alaska sailing well into the summer, when it would be expected there would be more children, or was it just prior to or just following summer break, when far fewer will be onboard?

our posts crossed--what date are you signed up for --We are back on Century for the 9/21 RT from Barcelona. I can tell you that our cc board is one of the most quiet I have ever had--may not even get to the 25 needed for the meet & mingle...& there is a large group booking of accountants & bankers apparently..we are not with them. I am not expecting a big party! This is a port intesive sailing so there will be some early to be nights for us---& we are not super seniors as you described above. the CD Booby Brown is great & the Captain & head chef are also excellent-On our April trip it was quite lively & the party band filled the club for some special events--the whitenight event was a biggie! Hope this helps you

Did not mean to offend with perceived stereotypes--I am myself in an occupation not usually associated with partying--but the OP seems to be looking for something alot more livelier than what she will likely experience on this trip-- The schedule for the Continuing Professional Ed seems very ambitious--not even sure how they will work in the intensive ports days... & the group will probably have their own private social events--just MHO..

We went in August. I actually enjoy less children on board, but the majority of passengers were pretty old to be honest. In one bar they had a lady singing Karen Carpenter songs with one person sitting there reading a book. Another had a string quartet, the martini bar and one other was totally empty. We ended up in the disco most nights. It was a great ship but after around nine PM we were the only ones up. To me, being on the ship was pretty boring.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking with all the excursions we probably would end up going to bed early anyway. We leave on Oct. 30.

We cruised on Century B2B out of Barcelona last October and then cruised back to Miami, almost 6 weeks in total. I usually wait to 10:30 to fall asleep.

The Transatlantic was the usual boring stuff..

good food, good service, great trivia, wonderful dancing..

we had a jumper (still missing)

helicopter evacuation

evacuation to an air craft carrier

late arrival in Miami as a result.

We sailed on Century for four short cruises in January and February and another transatlantic in April and the Fjords in May. We have also cruised on Century four times prior to last year.

Century is my kind of ship but I still go to bed early.:cool:

I don't mind all kinds of music at any time. I do not enjoy a string quartet as a main form of entertainment in a bar setting.

We were 32 and 33 when sailed in Med... and energetic. Believe me you'll be lucky to look for activities after 8-9 hours of sightseeings every day.:D

Just returned from Baltic cruise on Century. Plenty to do, disco was hopping, late shows, lots of younger people, even honeymooners!

Hey SillySoul, would you happen to be sailing on the 11/2/07 Century sailing out of Barcelona? I noticed you mentioned you were leaving on 10/30... My fiance and I will be having our honeymoon on that sailing and we are looking forward to a little R'n'R, but we're still expecting to have some fun! We're 31 and 22 respectively FYI.

 

I've sailed on Millenium once in 2005 and while the crowd was on average older than when I sailed on RCL Voyager OTS, there was still fun to be had.. However, the ship did button up around 10:30p every night so a bunch of us just kept the fun going in the Martini Bar..... or trespassing into the Thalassotheraphy pool at 12:30a until we got kicked out :)

 

What kinds of things are you looking for to have "fun"?

Truthfully, you will probably find the passengers on the older side.

 

DH and I are in our late thirties and prefer cruises with older passengers. We have spent enough vacations with drunk 20 years olds and young families to last us for a while. We intentionally book longer cruises during the winter for this reason.

 

Ironically, my least favorite cruise from a fellow passenger standpoint was a short cruise that has mostly people our age - what a bunch of complainers. We learned later that they were part of a corporate group and that the company paid for the cruise. But they were upset that they had to pay for their bar bill. Can you believe a free cruise on Celebrity and all they did was complain? :eek:

 

Our favorite group on a cruise was a west coast repo with a lot of very experienced cruisers. This group was having a great time no matter what happened.:D

 

But back to your question - I think you will find the crowd on a 10 Day Celebrity Cruise on the older side unless it is over the holidays. If this is going to detract from your experience you might want to do some more research.

We are going in 2008. Basically what happened was after nine pm the ship became a ghost ship, not one soul anywhere! We ended up in the disco talking to the bartenders. LOL!

I cannot believe people actually complained about having one bill to pay. What losers, I would have been as happy as a clam. I like you do not care for the cruises with the drunken young adults or the families with small kids. Already been there and done that. :) I am fifty but do prefer a crowd that is younger than eighty plus, which is what happened on another celebrity cruise.

First of all , there has been a huge change , last year with the refurbishment....the ship looks a lot better!

I've been working on Century before the renovation...and after....all together about 18 months , I have stayed in guest cabins ( due to guest status ) and it is a very well run ship!

 

As you embark look forward and meet with the Chief Concierge Ana Maria ..She's from Romania , I know Her well and if there are any particular issues , I'm sure She will be able to solve them.

 

Try the Gym ( the Aqua Spa ) , try the Martini Bar and Cova Cafe ...and do not miss the Shows..if you look for the best vue in the thatre , well , look for the upper level , balcony , left side / middle balcony / first row....in the middle of the row !

 

Murano is by far the best chice when it comes to food / dining ....but go for sushi as well ( one of my favourites!) , by the buffet , at night

 

And if there is someone willing to have a Cigar and a glass of Cognac.....look for the Sunset Bar...behind the buffet area on deck 10

Just back from the Century in the Baltics. We are 34 and 32. LOVED it! Never felt it was a ghost ship....never felt it was too old. There were more older than younger, but didn't make a difference to us. Now, the difference in this may be that my husband and I tend to go to the casino at night. It was always hopping. However, we did the shows and the martini bar and never felt like it was empty or lacking. Though the shows weren't that great, we still enjoyed it all!
