bikeman688 Posted August 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2004 The air lines charge extra for luggage over 62 in (hight + width+depth). Does anyone know how strict this is enforced. The large suirecases I purchased a few years are 66in. I would hate to have to purchase new luggage.
doone Posted August 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2004 Delta is enforcing size and weight. My suitcase was 3 pounds over coming home from Ft. Lauderdale, I either paid $25 or took out a pair of shoes, so out came the shoes and they went into my carryon. I asked if all the Delta terminals are enforcing the new rules, was told, yes mam. From what I hear, all the airlines are enforcing the new rules as well.
BaumD Posted August 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2004 The airlines are getting much tougher on size and weight. They see it as a way to make a few more $$.
LARGIN Posted August 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2004 This is strictly enforced now.. Leave "big bertha" home and go with smaller sizes for air travel. I have a large 30" TravelPro that measures 65 inches. I only use it when I can go directly to the ship without traveling by air
Nasmas Posted August 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 19, 2004 I think some are more strict than others and also, it might depend on who happens to weigh your luggage. We were going to New Orleans last year on Northwest and we took one large suitcase. It was overweight she said, but she didnt' charge us because we only had one. It was a little larger than the limit too but no one ever measured. I also have a carry on that according to the website I bought it from is 43.5 and the carryon limit is 45. I saw this bag on another web site and it says its 45.5. I dont' think anyone is going to measure. I hope they dont'
elmorejj Posted August 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2004 I have seen them whip out a tape measure on several airlines, and the place you put your luggage for tagging is the weight scale. Yes they are enforcing these rules. On some smaller planes, the luggage sometimes makes the plane overweight, and I have seen them take off a few pieces. If you really want to push it, try checking in at curb side, I`ve never seen those guys checking anything regarding size....jean
