Questions About Majesty

My DH, myself and my sister's family are booked on the Majesty to Bermuda in September 2008. I have been on NCL once, but not my husband. I would like to know: 1) What is the best time to eat dinner (less crowded)? We are thinking around 7:00 PM. How about the Captain's Dinner? It is more crowded in the main dining room, and is there a substantial wait, even if you have a reservation made well in advance? 2) I understand there is only one optional dress-up night. Don't they have a Farewell Dinner? On the other cruise line (Celebrity) we have been on, they made much ado about that night. 3). If we were to make all of our dinner reservations as soon as possible after we checked into our cabin, where would one go to do this? Also, is this a guarantee that we would not have to wait too long (there will be seven of us)? Finally, 4) Does anyone have sample menus from either of the main restaurants and/or the speciality ones? Specifically, the Italian and French ones (I did not see a Tex-Mex one listed). If anyone could direct me to a site where the menus are posted, that would be wonderful.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give us. We are looking forward to our trip (we love Bermuda) and would like to insure our dining experience is as good as we can make it.

I can answer the general dining questions since they are the same on all NCL ships:

1) What is the best time to eat dinner (less crowded)? We are thinking around 7:00 PM. How about the Captain's Dinner? It is more crowded in the main dining room, and is there a substantial wait, even if you have a reservation made well in advance?

The dining rooms are most crowded between 6:15 and 8:00. To avoid the crowds, go before 6:15 or after 8:00.

If you are considering Lobster Night to be the Captains Dinner, that is the night the main dining rooms tend to be more crowded. It is usually the first full sea day after sailing.

The main dining rooms will only accept reservations for large parties (more than 8) and only for 5:30, 6:00 or after 8:00 p.m.. Those in the upper end suites can also make reservations in the main dining rooms. Everybody else waits in line. Reservations are accepted from all for the Specialty Restaurants.

2) I understand there is only one optional dress-up night. Don't they have a Farewell Dinner? On the other cruise line (Celebrity) we have been on, they made much ado about that night.

NCL actually has as many dress up nights as you want with their Freestyle Policy. If you want to dress up, you can and if you want to go casual every night you can.

NCL recently changed the name from "Optional Formal Night" to "Dress as You wish Night." This is usually the Lobster night (first full sea day after sailing) and is the night when the people who wish to dress up will do so. In general only about 40% of the passengers will dress up on the Optional Formal night, the rest will be in resort casual. The dress code is the same in all dining venues on all nights.

7:00 is a popular time for dinner and you might wait more then. Try earlier or later for less of a wait.

You only need reservations at the specialty restaurants. The Majesty has two; Le Bistro which is French and has a cover charge and the pasta restaurant (blanking on name) which does not have a cover charge. You can only make reservations for those restaurants for that night and the next night unless you are in a suite.
