VNP, land or air tour first

We are planning to rent a car in Hilo to see VNP and we are considering a airplane tour as well. Plane tour is just 1 hr and hopefully we will get to see some hot lava :cool: I'm thinking it would be best to get the car asap and get up to VNP b4 the buses, then do the air tour which can be booked for 3pm. Or, we could do the air tour first and have the rest of the day for VNP (ship leaves @ 6pm). Which would you do first? Mahalo

I have been told by the heli people that mid morning is best for air tours, the weather is best then. So,obviously, this would be true for airplane too.

Definitely shoot for a morning air tour - things can get socked in by the afternoon around the park. The park is really big enough to avoid the buses, just don't be in Volcano House at lunch time - then it's really crazy!

There is a lot to see in VNP, the amount of time you are there isn't enough, I would go to the park, enjoy it for the day and take the air tour on your next visit, after being there you will want to return.:)
