What not to do in Costa Maya?

Is there any excursion that you would definitely NOT recommend?

I'm not really a fan of the ship's excursions in the first place. The one thing I think that a person should NOT do is get off the ship at Costa Maya, see the cruiseline built port facilities ( more like a strip mall IMHO) and think that that is all there is to do/see. I'm in favor of a taxi ride to Mahahual for a very pleasant day at a sandy beach.

I agree with bruce, definitely go to Majahual beach! You'll have a wonderful time.

What about the Mayan Explorer tour that Princess offers? The info says that the tour is 8 hours. We're not much on spending the day on the beach. We'll also have a 12 yr old with us.

You should find out how long the bus ride is and gauge how well your 12 y/o will handle it. Depending on the personal make up, you could have a swell time or wish you had saved your money and stayed on the ship.
