Ok, The last cruise we took, Jan. 07 on the Norweign Dream, my husband fell in love with the ship, I don't know if it was a first time cruising thing or what.. For our next cruise I booked Carnival Liberty in January. He isn't worried about the places we are going to visit, just the ship. For those of you that have been on both, can you please let me know the pro's and con's on both ships?

Thanks!

The Carnival Liberty is a beautiful ship - nice decor. You'll love it.

It also has the big screen tv poolside (dive in theatre or whatever they are calling it on Carnival)

You can watch movies just like at the old drive in movies.

Tell him you'd like to cuddle up on deck with him and watch a movie and maybe he'll change his tune! :)

Hi..Last year I was on the NCL Star and on 9/23 I will going on the Liberty as well. From what I can see the ships actually look pretty similar. Lot's of smaller lounges and places to get lost in. The only exception is that the Star had 9 dining choices, the Liberty has, well 3-4 (free main dining room, free casual dinner buffet, surcharge Hary's Super Club, free Sushi Bar (from 5-8), plus the Fish n Chips and also the 24 Hr Pizza & Ice Cream).

Once I sail the Liberty I can give a closer comparison of the ships. Hopefully this was enough of a opinion to put your mind at ease.

The Asian station, the grill, Patisserie, and Deli. Not to mention the quality of the food on CCL vs NCL - in my opinion and those of others I know who've sailed both lines, NCL doesn't come close in terms of quality - and of those 9 choices on the Star, only 4 of them are not extra charge. Won't say NCL makes their "free" food bad to get you to spend extra $$ on alternatives, but...

OK, yah I would. :p

Had one of best times ever on the Dream.....never been on the Liberty but have sailed the Conquest and they are about the same.....the Liberty is twice the size and has a lot more places to explore...bars, lounges and etc....we like the size of the Dream but with these larger ships there is just a lot more bells and whistles....plus once he sees the atrium( which the Dream does not have) he will be amazed at the difference in ships.

Been on both sides. You cant compare this 2 ships they are very different. Liberty is much better, but it all depends on what you are looking for.The Liberty carries more people and more fun. The Dream is more calm, quiet.

you decide but I would take the Liberty in one second.:D

We're on Liberty in October ... and the Dream was one of our favorite ships EVER. Her staff was excellent, and we really didn't have any issue with the food on NCL, contrary to what seems to be popular opinion on these boards ... that being said, we love Carnival, too ... I think if you go in expecting the ship to be the same as the last one you sailed on, you'll be disappointed. If you go in expecting a new experience and looking forward to having a new and different experience, you'll be pleased.

If you have specific questions, feel free to post them and I'll try to do a side by side comparision for you when I get back. Otherwise, somebody else on the board will know the answer to your (or DH's) questions.

Having sailed on NCL, RCCL, and CCL I can honestly say I enjoy all 3. My kids prefer Carnival, so for now we lean that way when we book ... my hubby and I do like the freestyle dining on NCL, but Carnival has so many options we've never had any issue getting what we want, when we want it. (On NCL Dream we usually had appetizers in the Italian restaurant, then went for dinner in the main dining room b/c my 3 dds got hooked on the calamari AND on the waiter in the Italian restaurant who kept them totally entertained with his oragami skills).

The Norweigan Dream has such a bad reputation I had trouble talking a TA into booking it, she kept warning me about it. It was stretched and very hard to navigate around and some have to go thru public areas to get to cabins. You also have trouble getting up and down decks if you are the least bit handicapped.

The Carnival ship will be guady, but a lot nicer imo and better food and beds.

We've sailed the Liberty twice and she's a lovely sail. The floor configuration can be confusing but once you realize you just have to go through the casino to the end and down a floor your at the dinning room. The outdoor movie screen is awesome, it was fun, they had popcorn and a nice breeze and some good movies. The food was good, as good as most cruise food, which is fine with us. Relax and enjoy.

Actually, the Liberty isn't quite a "gaudy" as some of the other Carnival ships. In fact, I found it rather pretty.

I have sailed on both the Liberty and the Dream and enjoyed them both. Each has it's own thing to offer.

I really think that your hubby will be quite surprised and pleased with the Liberty!!

The Dream is the WORST ship I have been on for all the reasons firefly stated. The Liberty is the nicest of all. The food and dinning options are much nicer on the Carnival ships. JMHO

The Dream is old and small, the Liberty is new and big, NCL has Freestyle dining and CCL has traditional dining. If you are like us...you will be in LOVE with the Liberty. (My Liberty cruise is 9/29...been on Conquest and Valor (same class).

Your husband is mad for cruising? I suffer from the same malady. :D I haven't been on the Liberty yet.(Mar) but I have been on the Dream and it's a 'tub' compared to CCLs Superliners! Your DH will even cruise-crazier when you get on board this ship, I'm sure! ;) Happy cruising! Looks like you might have a lot in your future.

For lots of pics of the ship, taken in February of this year, check out the link under my name. I thought Liberty was beautiful-a kind of Mediterranean style theme throughout with lots of wrought iron and lights that continuously change color throughout I can't compare it to the ship you were on previously, cuz I've only been on Carnival, but it's a new and beautiful ship, and I don't think you'll be unhappy. As for food, the choices are unlimited. If you can't find something you like, then nothing will please you. The only thing that it charged for is if you go to the supper club, which I hear is fabulous (you need to make a reservation right away when boarding or you won't get in) or the drinks at the coffee bar.

Please let us know your opinion when you are back from the cruise!:)
