Debordo Posted September 29, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2007 Just returned from NE cruise. Ate at West Street Cafe and throughly enjoyed the meal. Our tour guide said there really isn't any secret to the lobster.. ya just boil them for 11 minutes:D We really enjoyed the blueberry pie also. St John. We ate at a restaurant across from the Moose Statue. Food was very good but took FOREVER. We were there for 2 hours. Cute restaurant cause of all the outdoor seating if you are looking for a relaxing afternoon. Debordo

Leafpeeper Posted September 29, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2007 There are tons of restaurants on the pier in Newport. Just walk around and check out the menus. We had lunch there today and enjoyed our direct view of the Queen Mary in port. Boston has a famous not so fancy seafood restaurant called "The No Name Restaurant." My favorite Boston Restaurant is "Joe Tecce's" or any one of the tiny Italian Restaurants in the North End of Boston near all the historic sites (Paul Revere's House/Old North Church). People think seafood on the coast, but Boston has incredible Italian food. I hope you enjoy your lobsta and fried clams on your New England vacation. I prefer fish chowda over the clam chowda. Wish I was going with you.

8 Bells Posted October 8, 2007 #11 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Any other opinions from recent travelers???:) We just returned from a land vacation to Bar Harbor, and visited Acadia National Park while we were there. We had lunch at the Jordan Pond House in the park. I had some delicious lobster stew and popovers which were both delicious. If you visit Acadia, be sure to have lunch at the Jordan Pond House. If the weather is nice, you can sit at outdoor tables and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Have a great trip! http://www.jordanpond.com

PVDColleen Posted October 10, 2007 #15 Share Posted October 10, 2007 It is worth a taxi ride (and they will come back to pick you up....Cozy Cab) to go to: http://anthonysseafood.net/ Maybe a 10 min ride, traffic depending, from where you'll be tendering in.....and absolutely away from the tourist area (meaning no tourist PRICES!!! LOL!!!) There should be taxis waiting for your ship..... Not fancy, you place your order at the counter...pay...and they bring it to your table. We go there all year! Welcome to Rhode Island! PVDColleen Posted October 10, 2007 #16 Share Posted October 10, 2007 I forgot you wanted dessert!!! No desserts at Anthony's....but your taxi driver can make a stop at Katrina's Bakery on Bellevue Avenue on your way back to the ship! But you can get all the sweets you want on the ship....right? Katrina's DOES have very decadent brownies, however!!! LOL!!!! Also, the health food shop next door has a great selection of Nature's Gate products....my favorite! Do I sound like an advertisement for Newport? LOL!! No, just a native and a travel agent in training with AAA Southern New England (am I allowed to say that???) Wish me luck as I embark on this "dream come true" of a job!

CruisinfromRI Posted October 11, 2007 #21 Share Posted October 11, 2007 MOST DEFINATELY GO TO ANTHONYS. It is well worth the taxi ride from the pier. We eat there all the time as "locals". Portions are very large, and very reasonable. I believe the lobster was aproximately $20 the last time we were in there (about 1 month ago). Have a great time in Newport!
