Does This Sound Like QV is a Non-Smoking Ship?

We got our preliminary documents for our upcoming QM2 cruise today. Included was a booklet entitled “Your Cunard Voyage Guide”. Inside the smoking polices state the following,

“For the comfort of all our guests, lifts and certain sections of public rooms have been designated as non-smoking areas. There is a non-smoking policy in all Queen Mary 2’s restaurants.

Queen Elizabeth 2 has smoking sections in all restaurants (except Princess Grill) and public rooms. Queen Victoria guests must adhere to a non-smoking policy throughout. Guest who enjoy pipes or cigars are accommodated in the Churchill’s Cigar Lounge aboard Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria and the Chart Room, Golden Pub and designated areas in the Crystal Bar aboard Queen Elizabeth 2. We do ask you to refrain from smoking pipes and cigars in other public areas.”

Does this mean Queen Victoria is essentially a non-smoking ship except for Churchill’s Cigar Lounge?

Oh lord, not this again.

Unfortunately, here we go again.

The UK website says:

Queen Victoria is predominantly a non smoking vessel, however Cunard Line recognises that some of our guests may wish to smoke whilst on board and has therefore designated smoking areas on board the ship. Please be advised that all public spaces are non smoking except within clearly defined smoking areas. Outside, on the open decks, smoking is only permitted on the starboard side of deck 3 as well as the forward and aft areas of deck 10. Inside, smoking is only permitted within Churchill’s Cigar Lounge and the Empire Casino.

Note the phrase "Public areas". Smoking in cabins is therefore permitted. in some way this is potentially retrograde for a non-smoker as a general policy, as the fewer smoking areas in the ship, the more likely it is to be the case that heavy smoking will take place in a cabin.

I'm assuming that a balcony is not a public area.

I would have thought a bit more consideration to smokers would be sensible. It is hardly offensive on the Queen Mary 2.......

In a perfect world the non-smokers would be as considerate as 99.99% of the smokers. Well, you know who I mean. The nons who go to the allowed smoking areas and act offended. How many times do they need to be told we really wish they would fall overboard without comment rather than hear how morally superior they consider themselves?

Riddled with vices and loving it, I remain your humble servant,

They should have learnt by now, give smokers more public areas and no-smoking in cabins. Fires are caused by smokers in bed more than any other smokers.

Perhaps all the smoking cabins should have water beds.

Well that sounds ok, a good mix of both areas. I totally agree that smoking should not be allowed in cabin, just because of the fire hazard (was it a Princess ship that had the fire?), but a well extracted area in the the bars will be fine mfor all I'm sure.

and designated areas in the Crystal Bar aboard Queen Elizabeth 2.

No, it sounds like they have not updated the booklets is a very long time.

This is my first attempt at multi-quoting, so I apologise if it goes pear-shaped.

I'm with ocngypz; the Crystal Bar had become non-smoking in August this year.....

Angela, you have been a busy little bee. Nothing good on the telly?

I have a 5 AM wake up to head off for an antique show so I was just buzzing through and now you have caught me in a post.

Two things--I'm behind in the messages and trying to catch up, and car racing is on the telly...zzzzz. And it's nice to have a chance to sit down.

Yes, I saw you offer sage advice on the Fashion board a moment ago. You get around too, sir!

Mind you, ALL non-smokers are caused in bed. Well, most anyway - I suppose some of their parents may have had larger and more comfortable cars..........

How splendid. :) That must be a magnificent experience. Did you get to sound the whistle?

The weather here was miserable yesterday, so you were wise to miss it.
