bepsf Posted November 2, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2007 Well, Almost Volendam... Scotty and I arrived in sunny Fort Lauderdale yesterday - he in the am and I late last night. All the luggage arrived with us too:D - funny thing was that when I disembarked the plane, the airport was deserted (@10pm) but in the luggage area, there were a pair of red-vested HAL agents with their clipboards waiting to escort late arrivals to their hotels before today's cruise departure. If you've been here before, the old Doubletree has been completely renovated into the new Courtyard Marriott on Seabreeze and Las Olas - $20 taxi from the airport. Everything is brand new and clean, the beds are comfy and the windows are floor to ceiling (so pull those drapes at night ) Request an upper room overlooking the ocean like I did and you can wake to the sight of yachts in the sea and folks running up and down the beach. There are even beach chairs and umbrellas for the hotel guests - no additional charge! There's lots of sand in the streets and sidewalks from Norm earlier this week - no big deal. Will check in later this evening - Right now we're going spending! ;)
Harry1954 Posted November 2, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2007 hope you and Scotty are enjoying yourselves spending .. I was worn out from shopping with my wife by the time we boarded last time. Was more elated at getting onboard to escape the stores as getting the cruise going! harry

RuthC Posted November 2, 2007 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2007 Hi Brian! So good to hear from you---glad you and Scotty each arrived safe and sound. Give Scotty my best---tell him to stay out of hot-tubs when I'm not around to share the champagne. ;) Glad you got my e-mail the other night---now you know what to use when playing "stump the piano player"---the proposed "flip side" of Celery Stalks at Midnight. Hugs to you both. :D
bepsf Posted November 2, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted November 2, 2007 Thanks for your warm wishes everyone - Yes, we had a very productive day at the shops on Las Olas today... We both bought red swimwear for the Jungle Red Cabana on HMC... ...and picked up a few Duckies too. :D And of course we picked up a couple outfits for Scotty - including his own Paisley Velvet Dinner Jacket... :) Scotty is napping now - I think he's worn out from shopping and the lunch at an outdoor cafe on Las Olas which included some decadent chocolate desserts (in honor of RuthC) - Chocolate Canolli for Scott and a Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake with Chocolate Ganache for myself, washed down with plenty of Chianti Classico... The others should be arriving in town later this evening, so hopefully we'll be able to meet them for drinkies tonite, otherwise I'm sure we'll see them at sailaway tomorrow afternoon. I so love your blue one... :) Laura-- Haha - How cool - I knew you'd get a kick out of that. I actually found most of my vests on eBay of all places! I also had some friends who joined me for my last Alaska cruise find some amazing vests at a western apparel store in Colorado or Wyoming (one of those rectangular states in the middle...;) ) Meanwhile, we met Adele for dinner at Chuck's Steakhouse this evening - We had a great time laughing and carrying on reminiscing about the good times aboard different ships and the numerous friends from here that we all wished were sailing with us. Until tomorrow! :D
RevNeal Posted November 3, 2007 #21 Share Posted November 3, 2007 Greetings from Fort Lauderdale! Tomorrow we board the lovely Volendam for 10 enjoyable days! Yippie!!!! Christopher and I landed at about 10:30 pm local time and transferred to the Comfort Suites (a "complementary" shuttle ride; though I must admit that the compliments were a bit lacking ... the driver never said how nice Christopher and I looked ;) ). I'm ooped from travel, frazzled from some problems on the plane (including a "child" who kicked the back of my seat for the entire 2 and a half hour flight), laughing hysterically at a post from the self-proclaimed "authority" of the AYWD Opinions thread, and ready to dive into my bed for a good night's sleep! Wow ... Brian and Scotty have been busy boys! Is Scotty going to be wearing the Paisley Dinner Jacket with his leather pants?????? ;) Me ... when I go shopping to buy something, I buy it and get out before I spend too much money. Christopher, on the other hand, goes into a store and immediately gravitates to the most expensive item in that store. Somehow me manages to do that without ever looking at the price tags. <shudder> It's good to be here, and great to be boarding my Volendam tomorrow.
