Sounds like buzz words for old and stuffy.

What's the average age on X?

I'm guessing about 65.

I guess X must be RCI for old people.
My guess is you are mixing up X for HAL.Old and stuffy is a 65 year old dressing without class or defending one who does:D

Your husband sounds like he just bought an entire wardrobe. Did he buy all this for the cruise? He is a rare one if he did....and good for him for wanting to like nice.

And probably spent more then I would for a whole cruise:)

That's what I was trying to say about men investing in 1 sport coat. It will be used ALOT and for many years. Now about the $75. gown the answer is yes we can wear it 3 nights on the cruise......but WE WON'T. I've always had a theory that women dress for other women. Sure we like to look good for our man, but if another woman compliments you on your clothes and look, then you know your on the right track. I think my obsession came from wearing uniforms to school when I was a kid. I vowed when I got older that I would never wear the same outfit day after day.

Have a great Thursday.

Hi:) you ought to check out the fashion forum:D ...your theory
is not just yours;) ....read some of the threads over on that board
and you will know that is a well known theory amongst most
females..and I never had to wear a uniform to school but I still
wear a different outfit each night on a cruise:)

One of the many reasons we choose Celebrity over other cruise lines is their dress code. We like the opportunity to dress up. Rita is on this kick now that I have to have a bow tie that matches the color of her dress!

Hi Sylvia,

I think we're on the same wavelenght here Sylvia. It probably is easier for a man to bring fewer pieces and have more outfits. I just seemed to me that the poster felt her husband had spent too much money for his clothing, compared to her $75 gown. He's entitled to some new duds now and then too.

I do appreciate seeing all the women dressed up for dinner as well, except for the occasional fashion faux pax.

I don't begrudge him for spending that amount of money - in fact it was my idea that he buy those clothes.

He worked at a job where he wore jeans and work shirts everyday (he retires tomorrow), so his need for dress clothes was rather limited. Since he needed a new suit, I told him to take advantage of the sale on two suits. And of course he now needed new shirts and ties, since the suits were different colors than his previous suit. He didn't want to do buy that much, but I reminded him about how many times he wears a suit for social functions - we are ballroom dancers (social dancing - not competitons) - so we go to a lot of events that require jacket and tie, suit, or tux for him and long gown or cocktail dress for me.

I compare a man's suit to women's formal separates - one or two skirts/dress pants and a bunch of different tops and you have many different outfits. However, these never seem to go on sale in my size - so I guess I am stuck with my gowns. When you only pay $35 for a gown - so what if you only wear it 3 or4 times!:D I am very fortunate in that my husband spoils me, so it was nice to take him shopping for something for him for a change.

I am worried about weight...but not the weight of the clothes. I figure I should save the looser clothes for later in the cruise....because of weight.

Do women really wear long gowns?

Sylvia H.

Very good idea; I have found this type of planning is necessary. It's best not to bring anything which is snug to begin with; You'll end up not wearing it!

Yes, most women wear long gowns. Love having the opportunity to feel elegant!

This is interesting..I have to ask

WHERE does anyone find a $75 or $35 gown? Are these short dresses on sale, or long gowns? and WHERE do I find them?

I have wondered the same thing. My idea of a deal is finding a gown or cocktail dress on sale for under $300.00.

I have purchased many dresses, long and short for less than

75.00....Ross, Marshall, TJ Maxx...all discount stores with a good

selection of dresses. Dillards ALWAYS has sales with a wonderful

selection of long and short dresses. Belk's has a great selection

too.....all the stores in this paragraph ALWAYS have sales.

I shop consignment stores where you can find fabulous bargains.

There are outlets malls all over the country....actually one

is 30 minutes south of me.

I guess it depends on where you like to shop but personally,

the word "Retail" is at the bottom of my vocabulary;)

SALE is at the top of the list:D

Yes, I just got mine at Dillards...long gown for $65 and short dress for $41, BUT I'm returning both. LOL I went to Ross and found beautiful cocktail dresses...some for $15-20. And I'm going to keep looking for the long...just not comfy in the one I got. But Belk and Dillards definitely have good sales...you just have to look!

Just got home from the Constellation's Canada/New England cruise. Men did wear jackets on informal nights but no tie. Only time they didn't wear jacket was on casual night. Women wore alot of black pants or black skirts with different tops. I feel that if you don't want to follow the dress code then on those nights, eat at the buffet. My tablemates always followed the dress code.

hawt1 - wear the jacket to dinner and then put it in your room when you go to the casino. I feel that you should wear the jacket in the nightclub while watching the show but you don't have to. I just don't like being all dressed up and sit next to someone wearing jeans and a jersey which has happened.

If you wear the jacket into the dining room and then you get warm, take it off and hang it over the back of your chair.

They are long dresses. I bought the $35 dresses at Nordstrom's online in their clearance section - end of season in the over 70% off section. They had a couple of gowns and I ended up getting two of them. I currently see one for $55 that I have my eye on.

I have also bought gowns at Marshall Fields (too bad Macy's took over - they don't have the same quality) - again end of season, after New Years Eve or after the prom season. I just keep my eyes out for the sales and if I see something and the price is right, I get it. I worry about where I'll wear it later. I currently have only two gowns that I haven't worn yet but will be taking on this cruise.

Roxanne = you are so funny. I agree. If he doesn't want to adhere to dress code then he should find another cruiseline. Maybe Carnival people don't care how you dress because they attract a different crowd. Men can wear that same sport jacket many times and no one will notice but we can't wear that same dress to the table because we are watching each other.

I am beginning to think my very first word as a child was "SALE". I hate to pay full price for anything. I guess that growing up in a town where there were more banks than churches or bars has an affect on you. :)

When my daughters were teens, we used to go the mall to, as my husband put it, "graze". We'd look at things that we would want and make a mental note for when they went on sale.
