St Marteen - arriving3pm

Need some help with this stop - as we are not arriving til mid afternoon - just not sure what to do. Would like to see the beach and the big planes - but how far is it to beach and how long does it take. Then what do we do in the early evening? Suggestions pleas - we are sailing again at 11.30pm .

Beach is about a 30 minute drive/taxi ride from the airport. Traffic gets bad late in the afternoon, but it's worst in the direction opposite of the way you'd go. Check the link below to give you an idea of flight arrivals and departures.

Keep in mind that you get much better pictures of the arrivals, but it's the departures that will blow everything/anybody into the ocean.

 

As far as the rest of the evening, that all depends on what you like to do. I think most of the shops in in Phillipsburg (near the port) usually close at 6:00. I'm not sure if they stay open later if there's a ship staying late.

We were on the Explorer in May when it was doing Noon-9PM stops. The stores in P-Burg started closing at 5:30 PM and the public restrooms were locked up by the cleaning crew at 6 PM. I don't know if the policy has changed since then.
