If you use US dolllars in Vancouver...

If you use US dollars to pay for a cab in Vancouver, which I believe are widely accepted, is it dollar for dollar? Because if is, it makes more sense to convert to Canadian, which sells for only .73 to the dollar.

or you can go to your home bank before you leave a get some Canada $. You will not get a fair exchange rate by using US$ on the street in Vancouver!!

if you can use a credit card you will get a geat exchange rate.

Also, i do not know if vancouver has casino's but we were in Niagra falls and the rate they gave you was about 10 percent higher the anywhere else, almost $1.50 can to 1.00 us. Just don't stay in the casino after you exchange it LOL

If you take Black Top or Checker cabs-they will give you the best rate. They usually give a little less than the bank. Yesterday in the stores they were giving a rate of 72%. There are money exchanges in town and most banks are open for the morning on a Saturday.

Time for another Cruise!

Is it better to exchange your US dollars in the states...or wait to do it at a Canadian bank? or does it matter?

Is this the same for the restaurants in Vancouver? Should we just use our CC?

Actually (from my experience) a CC is probably the best way to insure you get the proper exchange rate.

A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work.

The worst cruise I ever took was pretty damned good.

Platinum with RCI, a couple cruises with NCL and 1 with CCL

Clock remove but cruise in Dec

My usual advice (which I follow when travelling) is to use your credit card whenever possible - but get some "walking around" cash in local currency for small item purchases like drinks, snacks & tipping.

Whether you get it before you leave or when you arrive doesn't really matter.

Depending on type of card, ATMs usually give very good rates. Banks give good rates, but sometimes assess a service charge. The WORST exchange rates are the ones given by retail establishments - and the smaller the place, the worse the exchange.

In the end, do what is most convenient for yourself.
