Ricky Chan Posted November 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2007 Can anyone suggest hotels near London Eye? Looking for room rate not more than 120 pounds/night. :o Ricky
Cruise Vanessa Posted November 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2007 Last year we stayed at the Victoria Thistle. It's walking distance from the "eye" and Parliament and Buckingham Palace. London hotels are notoriously expensive. The Victoria Thistle was about $150 per night and that was the cheapest we could find and still be in the heart of things. We found the location great and the accommodations OK. Victoria Station is underneath the hotel - very convenient for catching the train to Dover. I would choose it again. dkjretired Posted November 14, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 14, 2007 You might want to pop over to the Britain board where there are some really great people who live in the area and can give you good recommendations. Here's a link.... They were very helpful on my three trips to London... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
Bullswood Posted November 14, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2007 Closest are undoubtedly the Marriott County Hall, and the less expensive Premier Inn County Hall, with Express By Holiday Inn also v close. www.LondonEye.com has links to these under "Flights & Prices"- "packages" section. Otherwise, anything opposite the Eye on the north side of the river in Trafalgar Square/Strand/Embankment area is fine. The Charing Cross Hotel (probably closest on this side), Thistle Royal Horseguards,Citadine ApartHotel etc are about 10 mins away from the Eye as you just stroll across the Thames on the new Hungerford footbridge. If you want to stay on the south bank (possibly a bit cheaper) and the three nearest hotels above are full, try one of the hotel booking sites or laterooms if it's short notice and ask for "Waterloo" as it's very near that station (Mad Hatter Hotel,Mercure City Bankside etc). Tate Modern Gallery & the Globe Theatre are also on the South bank & there's a pleasant riverside walk to Tower Bridge. However if you can get a good rate, I'd suggest staying at the County Hall hotels near the Eye & footbridge so you can also get across the river to the north bank as that's where all the sights & nightlife/theatres are ! Pre book for the Eye on the web to avoid the queue. P.S. Avoid the Strand Palace Hotel - it's anything but!
signman Posted November 14, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 14, 2007 I had a great stay a few years ago at the Thistle Charing Cross, just across the river. Got a great price on Priceline. You can read my review at http://www.biddingfortravel.com and also see what people are currently winning rooms for.

Kwiley: Thanks for the suggestion. I tried to make a reservation(to check out the rate) by logging on to its website, but it was down. Is the hotel situated on the side of the river? and how long does it take to walk from the hotel to the London Eye? Thanks others as well for the suggestions. :D Ricky
Bullswood Posted November 14, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2007 Thistle Charing Cross is much closer than Victoria - have stayed at former & endorse previous comments. Victoria Station is about a mile up river from the Eye about 25 mins walk whereas Charing Cross is just at the north end of the bridge across to the London Eye. Bullswood Posted November 14, 2007 #9 Share Posted November 14, 2007 P.S. By the way, the Charing Cross Hotel is no longer a member of the Thistle Group so you'll find on www.guoman.com (could be reason for your problem?)
Desertbelle Posted November 14, 2007 #10 Share Posted November 14, 2007 We've booked the Crowne Plaza-London the City (got a great price through Hot Wire) and on the map it looks to be right across the river from the Eye. I hope it's as close as it looks. Can't wait!!
April Jewel Posted November 14, 2007 #11 Share Posted November 14, 2007 We have stayed at the Premier Inn, County Hall - same side of the river just to the side of the Eye We found it a great position and wandered back from the West End after seeing a show. It was good value for money for a London hotel - nothing fancy, just basic accommodation but fine Tammy
mad lizzie Posted November 14, 2007 #12 Share Posted November 14, 2007 We too have stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall and found it clean, efficiently run and resonably priced, the breakfasts were good too. It is right beside the London Eye and very central for lots of the attractions. Enjoy your trip! Liz.:)
Bruin Steve Posted November 14, 2007 #13 Share Posted November 14, 2007 For our Baltic post-cruise for August, we've booked the Park Plaza County Hall... It's brand new...and looks like it should be VERY nice... We were able to book it for our dates for only 95 GBP per night... http://www.parkplaza.com/countyhall_london/
bye-seaya Posted November 15, 2007 #14 Share Posted November 15, 2007 Can anyone suggest hotels near London Eye? Looking for room rate not more than 120 pounds/night. :o Ricky You may want to check out the Royal Lancaster Hotel. It is a great old hotel with a lot of character and walking distance to Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, local pubs, shopping boutiques, etc. It may be around 120 pounds or more for a room - but well worth it. They filmed a scene from the movie "The Italian Job" there. It has great service, nice rooms and what you would expect for an upscale British hotel. Good luck!:)
Kathie44 Posted November 15, 2007 #15 Share Posted November 15, 2007 In June '06 we stayed at the City Inn Westminster, which is really close to the major sights. British friends, tablemates from our very first cruise, came into London for the day and met us at our hotel, had lunch with us and then took us on a wonderful walking tour. The next day we went on an Evan-Evans pre-booked tour of Leeds Castle, Canterbury and Dover (highly recommended). The last day in London, we got tickets for the hop-on-hop off double-decker bus and toured all day--Tower of London, the Eye, the included boat tour on the Thames and a couple of other stops. I think it's better to be closer to Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, etc. The Eye is just across the river and easily accessible from the tube or bus. It is pretty cool when you get up to the top and can see everything for 25 mi. in all directions.
