jayesouthworth Posted November 24, 2007 #26 Share Posted November 24, 2007 Does anyone know...do they have crew watching the side of the ship at all times? Because it occured to me while looking out at the ocean from our balcony that you could go overboard late at night and no one would ever know because of the pitch black night and darkness of the seas. Within second you would be out of view. Obviously such incidents have occured but not as many as you would expect...or at least that I hear of. Overboards occur more often than you think. If you go here http://www.cruisejunkie.com/events.html there's a chart with overboards per cruise lines. DH and I never go out on the ships decks after dark if there's just the two of us out there. If we want to exercise, we just walk up and down the stairs or hangout on our balcony.

A co-worker was able to locate the cruise that she was on 2 years ago where two elderley people went missing mysteriously during the night. Seems it does happen a lot more than you think. salty dingo Posted November 25, 2007 #28 Share Posted November 25, 2007 The railings are high enough on your balcony to prevent an accidental "slip" overboard...unless you do something stupid like this... http://www.cruisemates.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=586298 Wow... that's gal's about to knock her stupid genes right out of the gene pool! She's not short - I wonder why she felt the need to be taller? Must be the alcohol at work.
Schlepporello Posted November 25, 2007 #29 Share Posted November 25, 2007 I stand 6' 7-1/2" tall. I'm gonna have to be careful around a short rail like that. But on the flip side, if I fall overboard I can wade to shore.
