We live 45 minutes drive outside The City, always stay here www.beresford.com

we stay at the Beresford Arms, there are two. Clean, great service, small, a restored old hotel, a fun place and reasonable.

I always recommend this place, just curious, let me know if you decide it is your kind of place, oh yes, nice continetal breakfast as well as afternoon wine tasting in the main lobby.

Don't listen to Cat, I think he has a financial interest in that place, this is what I do, you get on the cablecar, go into the back, under the last seat, pull in your bags, and just ride back and forth, you can even sleep there, I've done it for days!

Just don't eat the Rice a Roni on the floor, it's old, very old!

Hope this helps!

I'm a local and frequently dash over to San Francisco for a night a la Priceline.

If you bid for a 4 star hotel on Priceline, you'll generally be assigned any of the following:

Union Square East zone:

Hyatt Regency Embarcadero---Union Square East zone

Grand Hyatt Union Square---Union Square East zone

Park Hyatt---Union Square East zone

SF Marriott---Union Square East zone

Union Sqare West zone:

SF Hilton

Renaissance Stanford Court

Renaissance Parc 55

I've stayed three times this summer (most recent last Friday night) for $68 at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero. You can generally get a room at one of the above hotels for around $55 in Winter to a high of about $95. Average prices are usually $60-75.
