walking around port

Recommended Posts

We will be on the Caribbean Princess the end of January. Does anyone know where this docks?

Also wondering if we can walk to any good shopping or do you have to take some kind of other means to get to the shopping districts.

We love to walk and would prefer this.

Any suggestions would be helpful....

There are very few stores at the pier (VERY expensive) (price out a cadbury bar--6 bucks)- if you take a water taxi-- 5.00 pp for all day on and off priviledges it takes you across the water to where all the stores are located.- there is also a beach there too.

We walked and the roads were not very friendly-- bumpy and full of holes.

Lots of goats too.

If you're into walking, the walk from the pier into town (Phillipsburg) was only about 10 minutes and an easy level walk. Of course, that's only if you're docking in Phillipsburg. There's LOTS of shopping in town, but wasn't all that impressed with the electronics prices - we looked at an iPod for $178 - bought it on line at Walmart for $149. Go figure!! There's a ton of little "cheepo souvenir shops" though and also several shops that sell Guavaberry Rum and other liquor products. Have to check that when you get back on board, but they'll leave it in your room the night before debarkation.

We were in the Caribbean Princess about 2 weeks ago and walked from the town to the pier. Its not a bad walk, not scenic, but maybe 10 minutes to the edge of town and 15 minutes to the middle. If you enjoy walking, it's not a difficult walk at all.

There is shopping at the port, but the best prices are definately in town.

The other option is the water taxi. Its $5 for a wristband for unlimited all day use. It will take you from the port to the middle of town and you may enjoy the ride across the bay.
