Liberty or Legend

We've been on both as I'm sure a number of people have been. The Liberty was our 1st cruise in 2006 and we absolutely loved it. We were on Legend in 2007 and are booked for the Liberty again in 2008. Personally I like the larger ship (Liberty) but I found nothing wrong with the Legend. Plenty of entertainment, food was good and the staff were great. If you have any specific questions let this board know. This board was great for us when we first started thinking about cruising. Now I don't want to vacation any other way. Happy Cruising!

We are taking a cruise this July, and our family cannot choose between the two ships. I would love some thoughts, opinions and feedback.

LIBERTY:) In March 2007,my family and I went on the Carnival Liberty 8-Day Exotic Western Caribbean(Costa Maya,Mexico/Limon,Costa Rica/ and Colon,Panama.)and it was the best cruise yet. It's a much newer ship than the Legend. The Liberty has a big screen tv outside, beautiful ship, great entertainment/nightlife,great staff and food. Many great memories.(Our ages:50's/20/14)

HAPPY CRUISING!

I have never been on the Legend but we were on the Liberty. I will give you my two cents about the ship. It is absolutely georgous all around there is not one room there that isn't beautiful but for me it was too big. DH was all about getting on the newest and biggest ships but changed his mind after the Liberty. There were parts of the ship we never got to see and we were inclined to spend a lot of time in the casino because of where it was placed...right in the middle of everything so you had to go by it or through it to get anywhere...

We have cruised on both and loved both of them. They are two different class of ships though. I would consider the itinerary of each ship first to decide where I would like to go. As far as the ships, the Liberty is much larger than the Legend and also has the big screen on the Lido deck. But the Legend being smaller has a sort of intimacy about it. We traveled both times with a group of very mixed ages and a good time was had by all on both ships. So as I said before, I would make my decision more on the itinerary than the ship itself. Good luck and happy sailing. ;)

We (myself, DH, kids (16, 20) too are trying to decide between the Legend and Valor (Liberty's sister ship). When I posted on these boards asking which would be better the answer was overwhelmingly Legend. I really prefer the Tampa airport/pier and airfare is less for us to Tampa than to Miami. Pros: The adults only rule at the pool is enforced on the Legend. The balcony cabin w/adjoining interior is available on the Legend. Ship layout is well liked. Cons: My big concern is all the reports of rocking and boucing on the Legend and it appears the forward balconies are very windy. Being that we'd be sailing in July/August, hurricane season is a concern. Legend doesn't have the fish & chips or Asian place, big screen TV at pool. As far as Valor, the cons for me would be sooo many passengers, lots of lines to wait in, too many kids in July, no adults only pool, more airfare. The pro for us would be that we could have an aft wrap around balcony, but I hear those are not as private, people throw things down on them, and there is NO shade and NO wind--too hot to sit out at times and cabin becomes hot. I just can't decide!

We were on the Liberty last Thanksgiving and it was a beautiful ship. Layout took some getting used to. We really didn't get to fully experience this ship because it was cut to 4 days and many things were not open on the ship because of the norovirus on the cruise immediately before ours. Many of the staff were still sick. I will say there was no rocking or movement at all and we did have some storms.

Good luck choosing! I will follow this thread :)

I appreciate all of your thoughts. Our family is in a real quandry some are very interested in going on the newer ship(Liberty). I am little concerned about the movement on the legend. I have not heard that, can anyone elaborate?

We were on the Carnival Miracle, the Legends sister ship and we didn't have problems with bad movement. We will be on the Legend March 23 for Spring break so we will see then;)

WE ALWAYS CRUISE IN THE SPRING FOR THE BEST WEATHER & HAVE BEEN ON BOTH SHIPS BUT ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE LEGEND BEST-IT IS SOOOOO EASY TO GET AROUND & WE FEEL THE CREW AND SHIP ACTIVITIES DIFFER JUST ENOUGH TO SAY WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT WE WOULD CRUISE ON THE LEGEND AGAIN WITHOUT HESITATION! THIS SPRING WE ARE GOING ON THE SHIP THAT IS MENTIONED MOST-THE MIRACLE.

IF YOU DO CHOOSE THE LEGEND, BE SURE TO ATTEND THE "BEER & BATHROBE" PARTY-ALL AGES ATTEND & IT IS A LOT OF FUN!

You will LOVE the Miracle! We did...although it's decor does not compare to the Liberty I dont care the Miracle was by far the most awesome vacation I had ever been on. The staff was AMAZING...I can't say that for the Liberty...although we went on spring break the staff was not very friendly at all...On the Miracle each day the MD would come over and chat with us especially my daughter she fell in love with her. As well there is a beer and bathrobe party on there, we attended it and had the best time ever! I am jealous!! I plan to be back on her in 2009 at some point...Enjoy!

We have sailed on both. Loved both. As some have mentioned there is wind on the forward cabins but that is on all ships not strictly on the Legend. We loved the large screen on the Lido deck on the Liberty. The decor on the Legend seemed to be more "toned" down than on the Liberty but that is my opinion. We liked the Liberty because it was new and large. After sailing on both I would go back on either in a heart beat. They are both great ships. Some people have said to chose the ship based on the port but remember it can change. Chose the ship based on size and amenities you like.

Above all have fun and don't worry about the little things. Have a great cruise no matter which ship.

We've sailed both Legend and Liberty. While I'd sail either again in a heartbeat, I liked Liberty better. I thought Legend's lounges were too spread out and the layout was confusing - I was always going the wrong way. As for motion, I noticed a lot of motion in Legend's dining room as well as in our cabin (5254). I'm not usually bothered by motion, but there definitely was more than we had in Conquest or Liberty's aft dining rooms (all were 5:45 seatings). However, Legend has the absolutely wonderful open aft pool area (and the pool and hot tub are adult only), which you don't get on Liberty.

People just rave about the adult pool! They all say the rules are enforced too. Love that :) I'm just still wondering about Legend--my TA is the one who told me he sailed aft on Legend and was tossed 6 inches off his bed at night--lots of bouncing--and he said the weather was not foul. He urged me to take Valor instead. We've used him for years so I really value his opinion. Maybe he had an unusual experience???? Don't know what time of year he sailed. But, we are intending to sail July/August which can be stormy anyway. The wondering goes on.... :)

My recent Miracle cruise was the first for me that I had NO issues with motion sickness, and the seas were not flat. There was quite a lot of motion, but it just didn't bother me. The prior cruise, on Elation, the seas were relatively flat, yet I got sick on Day 1 while at sea.

This time, I took ginger & bonine, starting the day before when we flew down. Absolutely no problems the entire week.

I was so happy about that that I'm going to book Legend for next December!

Miracle was my largest ship yet. I'm just not interested in bigger with even more people, even if it is newer.

I would still pick based on itinerary. Of course, there's a chance that might change, but the ports are my #1 priority when cruising. Price is 2nd. Ship is 3rd.

The Valor and Legend have the exact same itinerary for the weeks I am looking. I too, after cruising RCI Explorer and Liberty, prefer the smaller ships. And I definitely prefer leaving from Tampa. Even though we've never been seasick before, maybe we should just take Bonine to be sure. We've been on a few ships smaller than Legend, so maybe it will be just fine. These boards are so great for cruise info, I guess we can't fixate on one person's experience.
