CkRobyn:You are the best! I have my cruise set for November -- BIG 50th and cannot wait. I have family and friends coming and I was a little worried until I read some of your other comments. The reality is, I love the AOS because she is a fantastic ship and it makes me crazy to think that folks would miss out on an amazing cruise because of what they have read about cruising out of San Juan. If just one person reconsiders their decision to cruise out of San Juan, then this thread has been so worth it!!!

 

Glad you love Toronto :D Yes, it is a great city!!!!

Nope - I have posted numerous times asking in RCCL and the family board forums, posted in every AOS related post and have looked all over the internet. It seems like people only talk really negative or really positive about this ship but no one has any recent info about it. :confused: Everytime I ask, people send me to that darn Voyager ship website which has none of the info I would like. I could care less what the gross tonage of the boat is! :D

 

Menu set ups, recent entertainment, daily compasses, kids compasses, favorite bar tenders, etc... Everytime I post about it, the crickets start chirping.:p

Two questions for those that know AOS

 

I have a 13 & 17 year old. Last year we sailed on the Mariner and since they were in different groups and with Mariner having two separate teen rooms, they were usually not together. Since one is a boy and the other a girl they really liked this. With the Adventure only having one teen room, would they end up together? Or, do they have teen activities in other locations to keep them apart? As others have asked, if anyone has the compasses especially for the two teen groups, please post them. They would answer a number of the questions I have.

 

Hopefully this doesn't stir the pot, but I am curious if there are more locals at certain times of the year? We are looking at a June timeframe. I don't have a problem with being on the ship with the locals (being from NJ I get the 'don't want to go out of NY' schpeel all the time), actually like the diversity. Last year on the Mariner, there was a quincinero (??) going on and therefore a lot of kids from Puerto Rico. They were just like any other group.

 

Think that's it for now, I'm sure there will be more as we narrow down our choices. Thanks!

Suzanne - I have the compasses from our 3/25/07 cruise. If they will help you I would be happy to fax them. I sent them to numerous people last year.

 

Oh and I LOVE the AOS and the wonderful itn.

Can I ask if you were leaving at 10pm or 8:30pm at that time? I am hoping for a compass that has the 8:30 departure time.

We are going on our first B2B and noticed you have done this. Are there activities for us to do during the day when the passengers are debarking/embarking? I know that usually most areas of the ships are locked up when we are getting off. What areas are open for us to use? Is there a special schedule for that day?

I know that usually most areas of the ships are locked up when we are getting off. What areas are open for us to use? Is there a special schedule for that day?

No special activities as nothing will be open until the new passengers begin to embark :rolleyes: Most of the "common" areas are open - you can stroll down the promenade, you just can't buy anything! Also - you will not be able to eat anything until lunch in the Windjammer with the new passengers, so if you think you may be hungry before noon.....take a plate back to your room from breakfast!!! There is no special schedule that day.....at least there wasn't when we did our B2B last year. Mind you....we (my family) were the ONLY B2B passengers on the whole ship!!!!

Ahhh. That makes sense. I thought there would be lots of people doing B2Bs. I know there's not a huge window of time between the time everyone is off until people are back on so I'm sure we'll be fine. It'll simply be nice to not have to rush around that morning!:p

Do you have the same cabin for both weeks? If so, you are able to hang around your cabin (even when the hallway doors are closed and the new passengers aren't allowed in! :rolleyes: )

 

Basically, there is about a 2 hour span at max before the new passengers begin to embark. Enjoy those 2 hours!!!! There is nothing like the feeling that you have the ship to yourself......it's lovely, as well as a bit eeerie :o

 

Another neat thing about B2B's is that you will be able to listen to crew announcements - the Captain announced last year exactly how many passengers the AOS was expecting and other little tidbits of info about the week ahead - it was pretty cool :)

Yes. We have a corner aft (7388) for both weeks. It really was a fluke b/c initially it wasn't available both weeks. we thought it would also be fun to sit back on the balcony and watch people hustle and bustle around.

Oh, that will be interesting to hear what the crew hears.

You will be the very last to leave the ship....they're have you meet in a particular area (our area was the champaign bar)....the staff will escort you off the ship, through customs and then right back on (it's awesome). There aren't really any activities planned, as they are getting ready for the next cruise, but you are free to wonder around the ship, hangout by the pool, get a cocktail, etc. It's almost like the ship is your own private yacht!:D It's kinda weird when the new passengers come on board...I felt like telling them to get off my ship :rolleyes: . Have a wonderful time....I hope to do a B2B again someday.

Hi shonandsuzie, we have corner aft (1388) for our cruise in July! :) We originally didn't book this because it was taken as well. I called back awhile later to see if the cabin next door was available - it wasn't - but was told that this one (1388) was. ;) So I took it since I hear A LOT about aft cabins. We have never done a B2B cruise, but hope to some day.

On our B2B last February, we did not have to leave the ship on turnaround day, I'm not sure if that was because we were the only passengers doing a B2B, or that you don't have to leave the AOS on turnaround day? Basically we were given an "in transit" pass which allowed us the ability to get on and off the ship on turnaround day without having to pass through customs at all. B2B's are a lot of fun - I recommend it! :D

 

I have my cruise compasses from last year's sailings (Feb/March 2007) when the departure time was still 10pm. I'd like to see a new compass if anyone has one?? Otherwise I will have one in 32 more sleeps!!!!

You scored a great cabin!!! :D Think of how lovely it will be on turnaround day when everyone else is leaving the ship and you are waving from your corner aft balcony!!!! ;)
