Getting A Passport How Long

Can anyone tell me how long it is taking to get a passport? I am leaving the first week of March. Do I have enough time to get a passport?

In Canada the length of time depends on whether you mail in the documentation or show up in person at an official passport office. I'm assuming you are American though. Here is a link that may help you http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html :D

I renewed our in july 07. Had them back in 28 days from the day we mailed them.

If you are in the US and are at all concerned (and I would be), pay extra for a company that specializes in expedited service. Check your yellow pages (online of course) or Google "passport expediters" and your zip code.

This is the way to go. Get it expedited.

I think the answer (also) depends on whether you are renewing or getting one for the first time.

I really think the back log is pretty much over. If done in the next few days, you should be fine.

New applications in the last 3 months have been taking about 3 weeks, sometimes less.

I applied at the post office on December 6th. Less than a week later, I was able to check online and see that it was in the system. I received an email on 12/27 saying it was completed and mailed. I received my passport 1/3/08.

I used the regular service - didn't pay for express.

The long waits are over. 2 to 3 weeks for first time, no need to pay the extra fee.

I mailed my passport renewal certified mail at the post office Dec. 28, and received the new one Jan. 7, eleven days without paying extra!:)
