mattR Posted January 19, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2008 I see we can't pack irons but do they provide irons or steamers to get things unwrinkled?
Gonzo70 Posted January 19, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2008 No irons are allowed/provided due to fire hazard. Here are the options: 1) For a small fee you can have your clothes pressed; give them to your room steward/butler to arrange this. 2) Downy Wrinkle Releaser works well for a lot of people. 3) Bring a small steamer along. 4) Use steam from shower to get out the wrinkles. hajekfam Posted January 19, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2008 Also, use dry cleaning bags - somehow, things don't seem to wrinkle in them.
jasm8449 Posted January 19, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2008 One of the best ways to start my cruise is the hand over a dozen wrinkled shirts to my cabin steward as soon as I unpack them, and for $18, (which I'd lose in 3 minutes at the casino), the next day there they are, pristine, beautifully pressed and hanging up in my closet - just like magic! I love it! It's one of the ways I 'treat' myself on my vacation. No cooking, no laundry, no cleaning, and I don't do windows! (only balconies :) )
98Charlie Posted January 19, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2008 WE've used all of the suggested systems and they all have worked for us. DW puts much of our clothing on hangers in dry cleaner bags --- very few wrinkles. Wrinkle release (Downey or other brand) works well on cottons. Special items we send out for pressing. Dry cleaning on ships is actually less expensive than locally. (DW has talked about taking along some items just to be dry cleaned:p ) Charlie
calgarygary Posted January 19, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2008 No irons are allowed/provided due to fire hazard. I'm going on my first cruise so am not familiar with all the cruise line fires that have been caused by irons. Seems to me that many more fires are caused by careless smoking than careless irons. Is it not more plausible that passenger use of irons would put too great a demand on the abilities of the electrical system, increasing the operating costs of it while at the same time reducing the use of laundry services thereby decreasing the revenue stream. Increased cost, decreased revenue, definitely a lose, lose for the cruise line. Of course, being concerned about fires should be of primary concern that is why smoking isn't permitted because we do know that careless smoking causes fires. Oops, forgot, smoking is allowed otherwise the cruise line would lose the revenue stream of smokers. Another losing proposition for the cruise line. Or as I said earlier, because I'm new, I haven't heard about all the cruise ship fires caused by irons.

Susan-M Posted January 19, 2008 #10 Share Posted January 19, 2008 However, Celebrity does provide WAFFLE irons. And I noticed that they got a good workout from someone on a recent 'down-under' cruise. Just hope that they keep spares on board due to breakdowns from over-use.:)
Susan-M Posted January 19, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2008 I'm going on my first cruise so am not familiar with all the cruise line fires that have been caused by irons. On our first cruise we had the use of a laundry room with free washers/dryers, laundry soap, irons & ironing boards. It wasn't until my next cruise when we didn't have these items available that I realized what a favour the cruise line was doing for me by keeping me from doing laundry & ironing. Better to spend a few extra dollars to have them do it while you find more exciting and fun things to do. :) Have a great first cruise!
