lafayettedvm Posted January 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2008 before our cruise this past week, i read about people wearing robes to walk around the ship. i didnt think anything of it. i have sailed several times and had never experienced this. well, for the first time, we had robes in our closet. i counted around 30-40 people walking around decks in BATH robes. i dont know why, but this made me feel uneasy. this ship decks are public areas not a driveway with a news paper at the end. why do people feel compelled to wear a robe to walk around? Well, I suppose you might never know what they had (or didn't have  ) on underneath... Maybe they were "flashers"??? Or maybe it's the new "smoking jacket" fashion?? Or they might have soiled their last t-shirt "cover-up". Or maybe the robes just felt realy nice?? Didja check their state/county/city of residence?? Could be a regional thing, where it's perfectly acceptable to wrap up in a robe, rather than parading around with a blatant display of bat wings, dunlap, or man-boobs... Also known as a fat-a-lanche... Just thinkin'...
joyful34 Posted January 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2008 I saw LOTS of people wearing them down to Lido deck to get coffee, etc in the mornings too! Also 1 morning I got up bright and early to take photos of the sun coming up. I was on deck 11 by myself at 6:30am, the wind was blowing, etc. Then I felt "weird" like someone was watching me.....so I turned around and there is this guy trying like hell to close his robe which the wind has blown open. He was embarassed of course but all I could think of was "what the hell were you thinking coming up here in a robe? Ya think the wind might be blowing ALL THE WAY UP HERE!!!" Gross! PINEVIEW01 Posted January 24, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2008 On Celebrity, they print in the paper not to take robes out of cabin. People still did. Not as many as on other cruise lines. Lots of people wear them over swim suits to and from pool area on Carnival.
lafayettedvm Posted January 24, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted January 24, 2008 some where around the pool, but i thought this is why people bought cover ups. others where in buffet area getting coffee etc...i usually dont care what others do or say or eat etc. but like i said, for some reason this bothered me. it felt like to me that these people where walking around in towels. some of the people were clutching their robes as though they were naked underneath. i guess "bath" needs to be removed from the vocab. KroozNut Posted January 24, 2008 #10 Share Posted January 24, 2008 The things I have learned on this board have always made me laugh....of all the things to complain about! Actually I agree with the posters that take offense to this practice. A 2-3K pax ship is NOT just one big slumber party, especially in the ship's public places. Bathrobe in the cabin, entirely appropriate; in the casino or piano bar entirely innapropriate..
cruisetobeaches Posted January 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 24, 2008 the Miracle(and possibly others) had a bathrobe and beer party Been there! It was a fun night, too. BUT, I DID wear swimwear underneath. Good thing, too since the first thing my wife did up on the Lido deck was look underneath!
VentureMan_2000 Posted January 24, 2008 #12 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Wearing bathrobes around on the Lido deck in the morning getting coffee shows a total lack of class...! It makes all of us in thongs on the Lido deck getting our coffee feel very uncomfortable...
davethomasowns Posted January 24, 2008 #13 Share Posted January 24, 2008 the Miracle(and possibly others) had a bathrobe and beer party I am going on the Miracle in March. I understand that it's probably a lot of fun, but what is the point of a bathrobe party? I am sure we will attend, I am just wondering what the point of it really is? Thanks Shane

I had real swollen ankles and took the night off.......the rest of our group said it was a great time. A 2-3K pax ship is NOT just one big slumber party, especially in the ship's public places. Bathrobe in the cabin, entirely appropriate; in the casino or piano bar entirely innapropriate.. We've noticed the "trend" of wearing bathrobes in public areas of the ship increasing. And we're not just talking around or to/from the pool, or even first thing in the morning grabbing a cup of coffee on the Lido Deck. On a cruise we took over Labor Day Weekend, there was a group of about 8-10 young men that wore their bathrobes to the muster station for the muster drill. Mind you, this was at about 5:00 p.m. before the ship ever left port. Perhaps they thought it looked "cool.'
cruisetobeaches Posted January 24, 2008 #20 Share Posted January 24, 2008 I think just a gimic so that everyone feels they are contributing. I had real swollen ankles and took the night off.......the rest of our group said it was a great time. I should have been resting my feet with a drink in my hand LOL I shot some great video that night of some very 'happy' folks that had more than their share of drinks that night. No nudity, or anything, just plain crazy. Especially one guy that was dancing to his own beat..........All the time..............Even when the music wasn't playing! It was a lot of fun, but the temps that night were in the 80's and those robes got pretty warm. Good reason to wear something underneath so they can be shed!
sarah_in_townsville Posted January 24, 2008 #21 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Im guilty of wearing a bathrobe up to the spa on the ship.. Only because i forgot to pack a coverup.. this is why i now have a packing list! Fact is i was too embarrassed about my body to go parading around in my swin suit so i wore my robe to the edge of the spa then dropped in and jumped in :D I cant see why it would make anyone 'uncomfortable'... its not like i was naked.. and you see more of me in my cosie then in a robe?? goingagain Posted January 24, 2008 #24 Share Posted January 24, 2008 ok im just gonna say it because not many others really have... People... there robes... calm down.... your cruise isn't a no class disaster because people are in robes.. jee what do you think about those rude people in what looks like bathing suits in and around the pool..out in public...i mean come on....please cover up !..i am sipping my tea! the cruislines came up with a great way to both meet demands and turn a profit...people that want "more class" can have it at their fingertips...for more money! many lines would never put up with robes in public areas.. and by all means go on those lines... the rest of us are trying to relax and have fun... I wear a suit everyday and night... i could wear the robe all week on my cruise ! anything to get me out of that monkey suite i wear every work day. But seriously people keep the fun going because those "bathrobe" / "pajama" / "toga" parties are some of the best parties during the cruise. especially since the sail away parties have been very tame the last 2 years compared to the past.
