dinomac Posted January 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2008 My wife and I enjoy walking and good exercise. Is it possible, with Frommers map and some pre-studying to do a walking self-tour and see lots of the sites? Is it safe to go out on your own? I would like to see a fort if possible, some public gardens and historical sites. Let me know! Need to walk off some of the weight we will be gaining while on the cruise! dinomac Posted February 2, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted February 2, 2008 Wondering if Ardastra Gardens is within walking distance of the dock????
Bunkie103 Posted February 3, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2008 It's certainly possible to make it to the Queens staircase and Fort Finncastle while walking. We did it in 2006 and saw quite a few historical sites. We even did the Pirates Museum which was a bit expensive, but we were on a pirate kick at the time and I had to see it.....arrrrg! When we were done we made the mistake of heading into the Straw Market..never again. We did some shopping on the Main Street in town and I can't wait to do that again with my DD. anaslile Posted February 3, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2008 Wondering if Ardastra Gardens is within walking distance of the dock???? I've heard it's walkable but it's at least a couple of miles. The person that I read about who walked said it took about 45 minutes. The 10A jitney bus is only $1/way. I love to walk, but for that price, I think I'm just going to take the bus. ;)
dinomac Posted February 3, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted February 3, 2008 Is the bus pretty regular? How do you know when to get off?
anaslile Posted February 3, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2008 I don't know to tell you the truth. I've only been told that you pick it up by the straw market and that you need to tell the driver where you want to be dropped off and he'll drop you off. navybaby1113 Posted February 4, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2008 I'm not worried about actually getting to Ardastra Gardens, but I'm wondering how long I'm going to have to wait for a bus to get back to the Straw Market.
WaterView2 Posted February 9, 2008 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2008 Downtown Nassau, along Bay St., is relatively safe for walking during the daytime. I would not wander about on foot after dark, there has been quite an upsurge in crime in the past two years.
