Food/Snacks in carry-on or checked bags?

My DH & I haven't traveled in a few years. I'm just wondering if we are allowed to take snacks, like pretzels, granola bars...in our carry-on bags. My DS who travels more frequently than I said she had seem some food confiscated at the security check point. I didn't see anything regarding solid foods on the TSA website. We are flying from CLE to MIA on Continental. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you have any doubts, just pack them in your checked bags.

If you're cruising, you can get so much food on board, I wouldn't bother with snacks. And you can always pick up something more if needed at the ports.

Yes, you can bring snacks like granola bars, pretzels, fruit etc. Avoid bringing things that are in a liquid (like fruit cups) or a gel (like jello), as anything that could be considered a liquid, cream, or gel is not allowed on the plane.

As mentioned, the TSA has no concerns as long as its solid going through security, but Customs might or more correctly Dept of Agriculture when coming into the US.

Coming back from China last month the only question asked at Customs was, "you have anything that you can eat with you?"
