maryella Posted February 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2008 One of our stops on Crystal Serenitys June 25th sailing. We were here about 25 years ago. So other than a quick stop through town I thought our kids would love to take a break and spend the day at the beach. Does anyone know of a good beach with a great taverna in Corfu? Rare taxatty Posted February 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2008 We had a very nice beach day at Paleokastritsa--protected coves with clear, beautiful water and nearby restaurants and sandwich shops. Les
Bob's Mom Posted February 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2008 How did you get to Paleokastritsa?
CateW Posted February 10, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2008 I am looking for the answer to that question as well. It's very easy to get a taxi right at the port but many rented cars, which I don't really want to do. How did you get to the beach?
Rare taxatty Posted February 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2008 We rented a car for the day at corfusunrise.com, which had a rep waiting at the pier for us with a good map and sightseeing advice--it was very easy driving and parking and much cheaper than tours or taxis. itsjb1 Posted February 11, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 11, 2008 We went to Glyfada Beach. It is a blue flag sandy beach. There are several places that rent beds and umbrellas. There are also several restaurants/tavernas. We negotiated a return fare with a taxi. He dropped us off and we made arrangements to be picked up at the same place at a set time. We did not pay until dropped off back at the port.

charleysmom Posted February 17, 2008 #11 Share Posted February 17, 2008 We also went to Glyfada and loved it. One of the most beautiful beaches we've seen. Sand is very hot so take some kind of beach shoes. The water is crystal clear and the beach is in what I would describe as a cove surrounded by volcanic rock. I think we might have been the only Americans there. Some of the kids were running around naked and a number of the women were topless, so if that bothers you I'd avoid that one. We rented a car to get there and my husband had a blast driving. My nephews were pretty terrified though :) Streets in the area are very narrow and winding and gas prices are over the top. haggis5 Posted April 12, 2008 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Can you tell us if the beach is clothing optional? We want to bring our kids but we know from pictures our neighbor took in 1992 that it was (at least topless) at that time. It's OK if there is a little of that but if there are no kids and all adults taking advantage of the sun, they (or is it us) might be uncomfortable. Nylsor Posted April 12, 2008 #13 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Check out this website - there's a review of Glyfada beach which says that there were nudists at the south end of the beach. http://www.greeklandscapes.com/beach/glifada-corfu.html Paleokastritsa is beautiful. The beach is especially nice for children - and certainly no nudists!
Shelledpea Posted April 13, 2008 #14 Share Posted April 13, 2008 In most of Corfu the longer beaches are clothing on the left , very far right clothing optional, This happens mainly on the south of the island where the beaches are very long and sandy. St gorges south is like that but also has a bit of a headland / dunes people use if they want to natural. Most beaches are fairly normal ~ topless women but not bottomless. Softball20 Posted April 23, 2008 #15 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We will be in Corfu next month and these beaches sound perfect. Can anybody give me an estimate about how far they are from the cruise port?
