Fishing On Board the Ship

I understand that I need a big game fishing license to fish off a cruise ship but am curious about how much they charge for an all day fishing permit and do they offer taxidermy on board if I catch a big fish?

Does anyone know what is the best bait (lure, live bait)? Do they have fishing tournamants on board, if so what is the prize? Do they have a couples tournament so that my DW and I can fish together?

Any help would be appreciated!

Funny you should ask, I handle the fishing permits, they're $47,000 per day, cash, I'll take a check in advance, just leave 7 days to clear, just make it out to me, you can trust me, I'm a trustworthy guy!

As far as the taxidermy thing, Celebrity doesn't do that, but I do, that's only $36,000, unless of course, you want the eyes, eyes cost extra, are you interested in eyes?

Hmm! Was going to your web site to get address to mail the check but no web site. Are you kidding me? ;) Guess I'll send the money to the other poster, he has no tree on his house! ;)

Crusn Tom,

I can always tell someone from the the eastern part of NC, in the western part we grow our trees vertical, not horizontal!

My home was Statesville and my Mother's house was Topsail Beach. My sister has it now the "Gritty Britches" about 6 blocks north of Topsail pier, ocean front.

Nitnyleo - you are on the Zenith southern for the sailing before mine (Feb.13th).

I'm going to get the chief mucketymuck in charge of angling to take pictures so I can fine you when you get back.

Iroyster - Unless they moved the East Coast, I'm probably considered Western, as I'm about 50 miles from Tennessee.:D

Tom,

Here are a few hints for you while onboard.

1. Plan to get up and fishing about three or four hours before you are due at a port. The ship travels at cruising speed until they are sure they will be at the port on time. Then, they slow down to trolling speed.

2. Get the cell phone number of the photographer on board. That way, you can give him a buzz when you first get a strike and he will record all the action for you.

3. If you want a table for two in the main dining room and can't get it arranged, wear your fishing clothes to the first formal night. After that, you will have a table for two with plenty of elbow room.

4. Those two guys selling permits are trying to rip you off! You don't need a saltwater license in international waters. If the casino is open, you can fish.

5. Clean you fish near the pool late at night. Don't take it back to your cabin until it is cleaned. Most ship pools are saltwater and others won't notice the fish smell.

6. Give your cabin attendant a few extra bucks each day. Leave your catch on the verandah while you are using the shower. Otherwise, throw the fish in the shower and tell the cabin attendant to ice it down and keep it iced. To keep things from getting complicated, practice "catch and release" until the last three days of the cruise. Otherwise, the cabin may get very aromatic.

7. Take a box of cigars with you and smoke them in your cabin once you have decided to keep fish.

8. If you want to save a few deck chairs, throw your fishing clothes on the middle lounge chair. Guarantee, there will be three or four empty on either side all day long.

Tom, I know this is all in good fun. I used to travel quite a bit for businesss. In Port Clinton, Ohio, a Lake Erie resort town, one of the motels had a sign on the outside door to room that said, "Please do not clean fish in room!" No kidding. This wasn't a Mom and Pop motel. It was a chain like Red Roof, Super 8, Comfort, etc., etc.,. I used to hang around in the hallways to see if anyone had to make other plans once they read the sign. I only stayed there when necessary.

A bad day of fishing always beats a good day in the office.

Iroyster is the cruising fisherperson, I just collect license fees and fine those in non-compliance.

I've got better things to do on a cruise like drop money in the casino, poke my eye out with a drink umbrella, roast in the sauna and other things to spend the enormous amount of money I make during the year from licenses and fines.:D

Hey Tom Cruise or CruznTom or Whatever,

Do you know that your little penquinheadslap icon takes 30 seconds or more to load for us that have low speed internet connections. It is cute but I really get mad when it takes so long to load. When I get upset about why it is taking a long time to load a thread, the bottom lefthand corner says, "loading penquinslap,XXX " or something like that. If you are going to give me the "it's your problem" answer, don't waste your time. I already know that my connection is slow.

Doh! But I want a table for one.

Otherwise, those are excellent tips that I shall use on one of my Pacific fishing cruises.

If they moved the East Coast, I wonder where the West Coast is now, hmm? Very perplexing!
