thesawch Posted February 10, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2008 We got home from our Western Carrebean Cruise lat night. It was on the Jewel of the seas and it was a blast. It is the most beutiful ship in any of the ports of call.Captain Thore said the rumours about him being the first Captain of the Genisis ship are true and he will be its first captain. The info session with the captain and his officers in the coral theather was very informative and that is were he said he was taking command of it when it comes into service. We had great service and it was our first cruise and are now hooked.Chankanaab park was the best place to snorkel when a bigginer or intermediate snorkeler. The reef snorkel in belize was disorgnized and the seas were too rough.Playa del Carmen had the best shopping . Did you guys know the Jewel burns 30 gallons of fuel a minute!!! Thasawch

MomtoCCC Posted February 10, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2008 We are going on this cruise this Sunday. Was the Belize snorkel excursion through the ship? or private? How was the weather? So far we are seeing lots of rain forecast in 10 days. Any night you would recommend for Portofino's? What shows did you see? Glad you had a good time! We can't wait!! lablvr2 Posted February 10, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2008 Hey - did our cruises overlap? We got off the Jewel on the 3rd :D What a gorgeous ship! We loved every minute on her especially the aft cabin. That really was a treat! I have been to Chankanaab park many times - glad you went there. The fish are fun to feed and swim with. I can't help with entertainment questions as we spent every night after dinner/casino on our balcony before an early bed time. Call us party poopers! I'm sure you'll enjoy the shows if you go. Rare hcat Posted February 10, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2008 We also enjoyed our 1/26 8 day cruise on Jewel--met great people--some who posted here. We had the Temptations Tribute Show which was fairly good & better than the usual, but just missed the Beatles tribute whihc I would have preferred. Has a great dinner in Portofino with lablvr--for our b-days and enjoyed a nice time on Tortola at Sopers hole with Island Pat & DH,,, Sorry to hear that this great captain will leave the ship for one of the biggies... I believe he was on her from the start & really did some great navigating & cruising for us..backing in at Nassau was very impressive!

I believe he was on her from the start & really did some great navigating & cruising for us..backing in at Nassau was very impressive! You're right. Captain Thor has been with Royal Caribbean since the beginning and was actually in Germany with the Jewel starting 7 mos before RCI took possession of her. By the way, I was the passenger who asked the question about the Genesis rumors and asked whether Capt. Thor was free to comment on it. He laughed and said that he had also heard lots of rumors. He then answered my other question before saying(something like), "yes, I am pleased to have been asked and have accepted the Genesis position" We had a fabulous cruise...everything was perfect including the weather and travel connections for 7 of us. LOL Yeah, I really think I surprised him. But he actually surprised me by choosing to answer the question at the end. I think he was debating with himself while commenting about the other things. I thought he was going to leave it at "I've also heard rumors". It probably didn't hurt that I prefaced my question with compliments about his ship! MomtoCCC Posted February 11, 2008 #14 Share Posted February 11, 2008 Glad you had a great time and thanks for sharing! You didn't say anything more about the snorkeling in Belize.. is the water usually rough or was it just that day? Glad the weather was great - I'll admit I'm a little nervous seeing lots of rain forecast but 10 days out is usually not that accurate :)
PIR8LUVR Posted February 11, 2008 #15 Share Posted February 11, 2008 I also just came off Jewel (Feb 3-9), with the exception of some confusion regarding excursions in Belize, it was wonderful! We were told that they are coming out of the rainy season. It was pretty rainy through the end of January but hasn't been as bad since then. Our weather was perfect!! Have a wonderful cruise!
