Livorno

Recommended Posts

In Livorno, there will be a group of taxis at port-side just off the ship. Almost all of the drivers will be looking for full-day passengers who usually will want to go to Florence and/or Pisa. These drivers all negotiate and the price is dependent on your skills and supply/demand. You should expect to pay about $250 +/- $25 for a full day. Keep in mind that most of the taxis hold 4, but there will also be some larger taxis that can take 6 - 8. The drivers will take you whereever you want, and wait for you to return. Some of the drivers speak English and act like tour guides while others have very poor English skills. If this is an issue, than you should "interview" the drivers before you make a committment.

Thank you Hank - we want to go to Pisa and San G/ or Lucca. We will probably end up in Lucca this time. I have a private driver reserved for 400E...but he is not a tour guide. If I want the tour - then I have to add another 100E. In both Pisa and Lucca, I really don't think we need a guide...we just want to poke around and experience a Tuscan town, have a nice lunch and then ride the wall. My husband speaks Italian so language is not an issue. We are going to be with our kids - age 10 and 12 so we want to avoid the train just due to the "hassle" factor. Given what you have told me, we may be better off just getting a taxi in port. Thanks for the great info -
