elron Posted February 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2008 Does anyone know if NCL's Gem has a duty free liquor shop? Just curious to know if they would have good cognac onboard to bring home?
cruise4kicks Posted February 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2008 Yes, there's a liquor shop on board -- don't know about cognac, tho.
Kingmaker_inc Posted February 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2008 Does anyone know the pricing of the liquor at the store? NCL charges $40 per bottle for spirits, and I am wondering if I shoudl just get it at the store as opposed to a formal bar set-up. Thanks! cruise4kicks Posted February 15, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2008 Anything you purchase at the onboard duty free liquor shop is held until the last night. So, bar setup is the only way to go. :(

Cubechick Posted February 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2008 We recently purchased Remy XO for $99--this is up from $89 a year ago. However, on many cruises, the duty-free shop gives a 10% discount if you purchase on embarkation day (usually not advertised in the Freestyle Daily) so our purchase was only 90 bucks! :D Not bad, considering our local land price is $149. ;)

Cubechick Posted February 16, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2008 For you connoisseurs, might I also recommend Gosling's "Old Rum". We bought it in Duty Free for about 40 bucks. Now you Bermuda cruisers will recognize Gosling's Black Seal Rum as the main ingredient in a "Dark and Stormy" This Old Rum is aged Goslings. Goslings may have just invented the first sippin' rum. Well worth a try, IMHO. :D
salty dingo Posted February 16, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2008 Goslings may have just invented the first sippin' rum. Well worth a try, IMHO. :D If you go to Barbados, the Mount Gay distillery is a short cab ride from the pier. They have a nice tour, tasting, and a gift shop. They have a really good "extra old" rum that is first-class sipping quality. Can't beat the price getting it right from the factory. I think we brought back a couple gallons!
