karena1...how was the gym? I do an hour of cardio every day. Are there plenty of cardio equipments? What about free weights? I definitely plan on taking a yoga and pilates class. I want my mother to try the classes too. Do you remember the hours of the gym? Was it ever crowded?

I am counting down the days...

Hi BoxerMommy! I see Karena's not online, so I can help you out with your gym questions.

Yes there is PLENTY of cardio equipment! It's a huge gym for a ship. A good amount of free weights too. When I was in the gym, it was never 'crowded'....I mean sometimes there was a fair amount of people but never had to wait for anything, except maybe a weight machine or the certain dumbells I was looking for. And even then, it wasn't long at all, since people usually move right along. It's a gorgeous gym! I believe it opened at 6 a.m.....but can't remember the closing time, because I only went in the mornings. :) HTH!

I also spent every morning in the gym, it felt bigger than where I work out at home, maybe its the view but god, I miss working out on ship! most days I would walk at 8am for the vitality point :D , and then go to the gym for another hour, rounded out with windjammer omlet - then a nap - then the pool - then dinner I could go on and on. and I loved the GET OUT THERE store!!! brought home many things for my home work outs with RC but my Y is just not the same:( as any ship shape spa.

Whats the difference in a hump or a regular balcony?

We are going to fly into Ft Lauderdale (its much cheaper from upstate NY) but does RCCL have a transfer to the port from there?

Im so bummed to hear about the english pub. We loved the pub on adventure, while small, they had this great irish singer that did drinking songs every night!

I have a dumb question!! Does anyone know if there's an electrical outlet in the bathroom? I bought nightlight/air fresheners (with an extra outlet) for each of our cabins and wanted to make sure I can use them. For some reason, I thought I remembered that I couldn't plug them in on Explorer; but I don't remember why. Maybe something about the polarized plug and not being enough room. They might have been a different kind and for some reason didn't fit. Who knows! Any help for my obcessing would be great! :D

I read on this website some months ago that the plug in air fresheners were not being allowed anymore due to fire hazzard. I have read a lot about them causing fires in home and SOMEONE is trying to have them removed. That said, I haven't read anything in probably 6 months or more so guess it was dropped. Regardless, a fire is something that you DON'T want on a ship. Bring some other type of air freshener.

As far as needing a nightlight......unless the cruiselines realize that we need some type of light at night I just leave the bathroom light on and the door very slightly ajar.

That's what we do too. I don't think there is an outlet in the bathrooms...which is why I have to plug everything in by the desk.

We were on the Liberty in January. We have two little ones who wanted to spend all their time at the H2O zone.

Here's what we experienced:

  • We found it difficult to find a table only one day (1st day at sea) and it was at breakfast. At times the buffet area was "crowded", but there were so many stations, we just walked to another and didn't have to wait.
  • We used the elevators often and found the wait time manageable. We did have longer waits after performances let out and in the morning trying to get off the ship. Other than that, it really wasn't that bad.
  • We loved the ice show. It was fantastic. Make sure to get tickets and to get to the show early to get good seats.
  • We found the ship to be easy to navigate. The layout was sensible and I think we got turned around only once.
  • The Pub was a disappointment. It is very small. I'm a cider drinker and they have it on the menu. However, when I asked the waitress, she said they don't carry it. I was bummed!
  • Our cruise was very international. There were a ton of foreigners. I'd say I heard more foreign languages than English. It was really cool! I found it fascinating seeing two people whose first language is not English conversing with one another (i.e. a Russian gentleman speaking to a French waiter in English). I loved that my kids were exposed to different languages.
  • The ship has some really neat places and activities for teens. Let me just say that I saw teens and tweens here and there, but I think they prefered hanging out with friends and the arcade.
  • Our table for dinner was in the side section off the main dining room. It was quiet, we had excellent service, and we could go in and out with out having to go through the main dining hall.

Overall, we had a fabulous time. Our kids ask us almost everyday when we are going back on the ship.

Have a super time!

How do you get the tickets for the ice show?

I was reading in the cruise dialies, and we went when we were on the adventure. Someone just has to go wait inline a few days before and get tickets. Its free, but they ration the tickets out because everyone cant go at the same time.

Just back from Liberty 2-16. She is one beautiful ship and so much to do. The plug in the bathroom was above the mirror, not a regular plug and it said it was from shavers only. I didn't try to plug in my curling iron or blow dryer. I brought a 3 plug adapter for the vanity area. There are 2 plugs on one side of the vanity and 1 on the other side.

This is what we LOVED about Liberty last year and why we are going back this year:D

Chops - Fantastic meal, we went twice

Portifinos - Loved it!!

Sorrento's - great place for a snack or late lunch, deserts were wonderful 5 bite size; so you can have two or three or four

Cafe Promenade- loved the cookies and the Caffe Latte's (worth the extra charge,IMO, gotta have the Coconut syrup)

Johnny Rockets - Fun place, good burgers & tooooo die for Onion rings & Ranch

Bolero's - the BEST Mojito's I ever had!!! Nice music and atmosphere, didn't mind the smoke.

The Murals along the exit area of the Casino, Ocean's Eleven Crew old one and new version.

Watching everyone on the Flow Rider

The Spa was a nice experience, i never had gone before always felt like I can do that at home so why do it when my time is limited on vacation. Will definelty do it again. Thought the prices were in line with a nice spa at home here. Stated up front, both times I went that I was not going to by any product, no hard sell just a few facts, got home and wished I had bought a couple items. even had my second lady give me some free information which really brought to light some issues i have had for quite some time and suggested a solution.

DH had the men's facial and shave. First up I will say he is NOT a Foo Foo kind of guy, won't go for a massage, only goes to an old style Barber's shop. He LOVED it the best shave he has ever had and he likes to shave with a real Straight Razor. Loved the whole experience, hot towels, mask, hand and arm massage, everything. I got some great bribe pictures while this was going on and enjoyed a bottle of wine at Vintages with my partner in crime while the boys were being "Foo Fooed"

I'm sure I will remember more later but it's a start.

Question to all ... if we skip the formal nights and hit Chops and Portofinos will we be missing anything grand?

Since you are going to be there in July, you will have a good amount of daylight to work with. If you've never been to Old San Juan, and you have any interest in history or architecture (and possibly shopping), you owe it to yourself to do a walking tour, either guided, or on your own. If not, there's many dining/drinking options where you can enjoy the atmosphere.

The San Juan port forum can help give you more ideas.

Mike

Hi Mike, Tiger, and Aussie Mom,

Thanks for the info! You've definately given me some new perspective and am really excited about our visit to San Juan. I'm glad I asked, otherwise I think I would have suggested to my wife that we skip the offshore and hang out at the pool.

Aussie, are you on the same sailing, or just the same itenerary?

Thanks again!

From what I remember, that's when they serve the "special" dishes such as surf-n-turf, beef wellington, and such. We never miss formal night, it's the one meal that we all look forward to!

YAY, an LOS thread!!!! I was dying to start it but I already started the Explorer thread & didn't want to be an "All Things...." hog! :p lol!!!!

I was on the Liberty Pre-Inaugural, and LOVED IT!!!! It is my favorite ship (with Explorer being only half a point behind!). I love the way Liberty is decorated, I love the way the bridge on the Promenade and the Guest Relations looks, I love the lighting, I love everything about this ship. I HOPE to be going back on in November, but we'll have to see if airline prices go back down. (What the heck is up with that??) Gas, I know. But anyway, I digress...

Thanks for starting this thread...can't wait to be a part of it! :)

Christie...we got great prices on flights from Airtran out of Newark!!! We've never flown Airtran, but the prices were unbelievable!
