Several RCCL questions.....

Recommended Posts

HI--

I am traveling on the Explorer of the Seas and I am wordering if any of you guys know about the following...Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

1. What is the maximum table size in the dining room? We have a party of 12, but I need to know of all 12 of us can sit together. If not, what is the maximum table size?

2. In terms of handicap people, what does RCCL do to accomodate those in need? Are there electric scooters at no additional cost? Wheelchairs at no extra cost? If there are options avaliable, is there an extra cost?

3. Is there a slide onboard?

4. Is there an ice skating rink onboard.

Thanks so much again in advance!:D :)

There are some wheelchairs available for use with a deposit. I would not recommend depending on there being the right one for your needs.

There are no power scooters available. You should consider contacting a company such as Care Vacations to arrange rental. It will be delivered to the ship and picked up after

They have tables for 12. When you make your reservation, request one. Table assignments are not guaranteed though.

2. In terms of handicap people, what does RCCL do to accomodate those in need? Are there electric scooters at no additional cost? Wheelchairs at no extra cost? If there are options avaliable, is there an extra cost?

They have wheelchairs and i believe they are free. Again, request one when you book.

3. Is there a slide onboard?

There is a small water slide for kids.

4. Is there an ice skating rink onboard.

Yes, there is a skating rink. There are times when they have open skating. They will loan you skates at no charge. You must wear pants to ice skate. DO NOT MISS THE ICE SHOW!

Thanks so much again in advance!:D :)

Enjoy your cruise.

Do NOT rely on their being wheelchairs available onboard for your use. Usually they are reserved for emergencies and needs that occur while you are on the cruise.

Your best bet is to rent a wheelchair and a power scooter through a company like Care Vacations. You should visit the Disabled Cruisers board http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=190for recommendations.

I have contacted Care Vacations in the past when my husband was injured and mobility impaired. They assured me that the scooter would be in our cabin when we got there, and at the end of the trip we just had to leave it in the same place. It was about $340 for a two week cruise. Unfortunately we had to end up cancelling the cruise, so we did not actually use their services, but they were highly recommended to me.

The cruiseline does not provide motorized scooters for passengers. I you need one you have to rent it.

They will have someone transport the HC person on and off the ship in their wheelchair, but you are not permitted to keep it for the trip. You must supply your own. They have no electric scooters - again, you must supply your own. If you are doing that, make sure you have a HC cabin as they will not fit through the doors of a regular cabin and there is nowhere you can leave them.

are they figure or hockey? My DH has a problem skating on figure skates.

The skates are figure skates. They are not a traditional looking skate. They are easy-in, easy out, more like a ski boot. If I remember right, they have buckles , not laces.

With our wheelchair bound son, we were advised to call the special accessible needs number before our cruise. They can you you situated and setup what you'll need before you board. They were of a great help to us

They do have some wheelchairs but as others recommended, you should bring your own. My DH needed one while on the cruise and we were very lucky to get one. They did not charge us anything He was able to keep it until the end of the cruise. As someone said, it does not fit thru the doors on most cabins. Luckily he was able to walk into the cabin and I just folded the chair up and brought it inside.

He was taken on and off the ship by RCI personnel. They did a great job. They were very careful not to hurt him in anyway.

So to re-cap, you should rent your own to insure you have it. There were also a few people with the scooters. those you need to rent as well.
