ILFAN11 Posted March 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2008 You guys are full of info and I love this board! Ok, here's my next question..... Taking pictures on the ship with a baby/toddler. How patient and good are the photographers with little ones? We get our daughter's picture taken a lot at Sears, Olan Mills, etc. She is at that age that as soon as the photographer has her positioned just right - our daughter walks or crawls away, or reaches for his camera, etc. The photographers at studios are usually pretty good and understanding about this. Any suggestions/tips on getting a good family photo on board a cruiseship without making our fellow passengers wait for 20 minutes while the photographer tries to get a good shot of us without DD crawling away? KerCar Posted March 5, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2008 The photographer on our last cruise took a beautiful picture of my two children. He was great with them and very patient. A lot of people get their formal portraits the first few days. Towards the end of the week, there is often no line and you can just walk right up to the photographer. If you wait until then, s/he can spend a little more time with your daughter. If you don't love the pic, you can always go back and have another taken as there is no charge for the photos if you don't buy them. I usually wait until the last day to purchase my photos so I can pick the best ones:)
NanciRDH Posted March 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2008 I agree on waiting until the end of the cruise, on the last night there were no lines at all, and the photographer took so many pics we finally had to stop him, lol. Getting a photo of my 3 girls together was one of my goals for vacation, time always gets away from me somehow, and it never happens at home. It almost didn't happen on the cruise too. By some miracle they all had one clean outfit that even coordinated with each other, and even though it was a very casual setting, it turned out to be one of our favorites. sharktums Posted March 6, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2008 We also got AMAZING photos of our at the time 8 month old! I actually went while everyone was in dinner since she needed a break from the dining room and there was no one there and we got some great stuff. One of the things he had her do was to start at the back of the area and crawl towards him while he would just click away...great stuff! Just be nice, and don't hold up people in line behind you. bcsurvivor05 Posted March 6, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2008 I tortured my child and the photographers just about everyday on the cruise (I am a picture freak!) and I found that for the most part they were good but they were better when it was not formal night. Not to many people take pics on non-formal nights and therefore there are no lines. There was a photographer right outside the dining room who knew us all to well. So well that when we were off the ship he acknowledged us :p . I will try to attach one of my favorite pics.
Dr_DNA Posted March 6, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2008 They had several nights where they took casual pictures and I thought that the photographers were great. They had one setup where everyone had to take off their shoes and they took very casual pictures. The photographers spent a lot of time with everyone. However, I will say that if you have cute kids, they will probably spend even more time with you!
ILFAN11 Posted March 6, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted March 6, 2008 Thank you - you all have calmed my fears. I too am a picture freak and usually by the end of a cruise the photographers know us all to well. Sounds like our best bet is to go when it's not too busy. bcsurvivor, that picture of your little girl is precious! How sweet. Hopefully, we too will get some good pictures. My hubby is very good natured about the picture taking on the cruiseship - let's hope our daughter is as well. :o
stsomewhere Posted March 6, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2008 We had a great family portait taken. It was on the first formal night. I told the kids if they took good pictures we would not have to take any more. ALso, for my son who hates his picture taken, I told him he would not have to wear his full suit on the second formal night. The picture turn out great and the kids wanted to get their pictures taken every night. Ds choose to wear his suit again because he looked so goo.
