Differences between Explorer and Mariner?

Other than the age of the ships are there any distinct differences between Explorer and Mariner?

Balconies. On EX, they are built to the super-structure. On MR: they are built outside it. Advantage: MR

 

Chops. On EX: No. On MR: Yes. Advantage: MR

 

Royal Promenade. On EX: Sports Bar. On MR: Vintages Wine Bar. Advantage: ?

 

Adventure Ocean. On EX: Kids Pool. On MR: No Kids Pool. Advantage: ?

 

Pool Deck. On EX: No theme. No MR: Britto art theme. Advantage: ?

 

Oceanographic & Atmospheric Lab. On EX: Yes. On MR: No. Advantage: ?

The major difference is in the construction of the balconies. The Mariner's are built out from the side of the ship, whereas the balconies on the older ships are built into the hull. They have a "picture window" opening instead of the full opening you'd find on the Mariner and Navigator.

Other differences are more minor...some stuff is moved in the Royal Promenade, Mariner has Vintages wine bar, the children's pool and slide area on the older ships isn't on the Mariner...minor changes like that.

The only difference I really noticed was the balconies. I felt very comfortable on the Mariner because the layout of the ship is so similar to the Explorer.

Note that the PR cabins on newer Navigator and Mariner have less sq.ft. than regular insides cabins (153 vs 158 sq.ft.) and the balcony and family cabins are larger than the other three older ships, whereas on Voyager, Adventure and Explorer the PR cabins are larger than the regular insides (167 vs 160 sq.ft.) and as stated above the balcony and family cabins tend to be smaller on these compared to the newer ships in this class. Regular Ocean view cabins are the same size on all five ships.

Would the comparison between the Explorer & Marnier be the same for the Explorer & Navigator? We have a short cruise coming up on NOS and our only previous Voyager class experience was on the Explorer.

Any secret places or things we should look for around the ship.
