Only One Bar ??????

I love when the smokers start whining about their rights. It's not your right to stink up my environment with your disgusting addiction. Even discounting the many health reasons to ban your compulsion from any and all public spaces, esthetically it's no better to be around you than someone with bad BO or incontinence. Because of powerful lobbies, you had a good run...but it's OVER. My suggestion is you quit now and you'll improve your heath, my heath and your bank balance. If you want to make threats about taking your business elsewhere because you can't smoke? Go ahead and don't let the door hit you in the ***! Non smokers way way out number you, and we don't want to be around you when you smoke or reek of smoke. As for smoking and drinking "going together", that's BULL! Last I checked, there's been no great reduction in the number of bars in NY since smoking was banned. The only place smoking should be allowed on board is the top of the stack. Happy climbing!

NCL is one of the few remaining cruise lines that lets you smoke in your cabin.

I decided to do my own research. Based on CC's article on the smoking policies of all major cruise lines, here's what I found.

The full CC article can be found at this link:

http://www.cruisecritic.com/features/articles.cfm?ID=225

NO SMOKING

Azamara Cruises – no smoking in cabins or balconies.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Line – no smoking in staterooms or balconies.

Louis Cruise Lines – no smoking in cabins.

Oceania Cruises – no smoking in cabins or balconies.

Peter Deilmann Cruises – no smoking in cabins.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises – no smoking in cabins or balconies.

SeaDream Yacht Club – no smoking in cabins.

SMOKING ALLOWED

Carnival Cruise Lines – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Celebrity Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Costa Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Crystal Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins.

Cunard Line – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Holland America Line – smoking allowed in cabins, including cabin balconies.

MSC Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins.

Norwegian Cruise Line – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Ocean Village - smoking allowed in cabins.

P & O Cruises – smoking allowed in all cabins, including balconies.

Princess Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Pullmantur Cruises – smoking allowed everywhere except in the non-smoking area of main restaurants.

Saga Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Seabourn Cruise Line – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Silversea Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins, including balconies.

Thomson Cruises – smoking in cabins is permitted but strongly discouraged.

Windstar Cruises – smoking allowed in cabins.

SPLIT POLICY

Disney Cruises – no smoking in cabins; smoking allowed on balconies.

Majestic America Line – no smoking in cabins; smoking allowed on cabin balconies.

Royal Caribbean – no smoking in cabins; smoking allowed on cabin balconies.

Based on the above, I would say that most cruise lines still allow smoking in cabins and/or balconies. Now, the trend may be toward more restrictive policies, but for the time being I would say that the quoted statement is inaccurate.

peg013: are you sure about Carnival's policy? If so, CC's article needs to be updated.

I was on HAL's Noordam last month and the casino was Non-Smoking until 10:30 PM everyday. At exactly 10:30 the workers would walk around putting out ashtrays. I thought it was a good idea, and I'm a smoker! I really cannot imagine how smokey the casino must get if it's one of the few inside places to smoke:eek: Not to mention smokers just hanging out there to smoke because they have no place else to go besides outside.

Well all the non smokers out there who say second hand smoke is bad for you. My husband is 74 years old old and quit smoking his cigars over 20 years ago but I do smoke and he has no problems healthwise. We have a cruise booked on the Dawn in an aft cabin and I see no reason not to smoke on my balcony.

I am very aware of non smokers and will not smoke if there are people who are around who might be offended but if I want to smoke on my balcony it is my right since NCL allows it -- and if I want to kill myself with the smoke that is okay too.

I guess if my husband has no problems after all these years then maybe the second hand smoke theory is just that

The first time I saw our cabin steward I asked for an ashtray and he said I was only allowed to smoke on the balcony and not in the room. I thought it was Carnival's policy. (I later found another ashtray in a cupboard.)

I also read the CC article about who allows smoking and was surprised it said Carnival allows it in the cabin and on the balcony since I wasn't allowed to smoke in mine. I was shocked because I had no idea I wouldn't be allowed to smoke in my own stateroom.

Since I am typing, I guess it would be "sinking fingers". If this means you're a die hard smoker, it would be my pleasure never to make you acquaintance.

It merely means I do not like being around obnoxious people.

I appreciate that you avoid offending others. My beef is with those who feel it's their god given right to smoke where they want when they want. Since it is within the rules, you shouldn't feel defensive about smoking on your balcony. I'm glad that your husband is healthy at a (young) 74, but that doesn't mean that there isn't health risks from smoking or second hand smoke. There are plenty of guys that worked all their lives with asbestos, never having lung problems. There are old time coal miners that worked their lives in the mines and never got black lung disease. Luck abounds!

Hey bagelboy, you're probably the same guy that drives a big Hummer or a diesel pickup past everyones house while they sit on their porch and think it's ok to pollute their air. Go look in the mirror and tell yourself how perfect you are!!!!
