Maybe it's the title "Senior"

Well it has been about a month since I last posted. It almost looks like this forum is "facing away.":(

My friend and I did go on our cruise last week. It was a good one, but the weather was not what we expected, especially when you go to California, or Old Mexico. We had rain/wind and COLD.

I was able to "bargain" a little on the streets of Mexico, which I love doing.:)

I am going to try to write a report on cruise critic when I get a chance.

Glad you had a good time. Looking forward to your review.

I see you have not sailed on Celebrity, which by the way, is the answer to most of your requests.

Thank you.

Good timing, as Australians are now permitted by Celebrity to purchase Celebrity cruises through US travel agents.

Just going through the message boards and thought I'd drop by this one. DW & I qualify, we're both 63 going on 23, u-h-h, make that 33. Discounts are great and it indicates the market understands we do have some disposable income to spend on something other than kids & grandkids.

One discount you may forget (62+) is the Golden Age lifetime pass ($10) for National Parks. Search on NPS Golden Age.

Meeting up with two other couples this fall in the Senior Mecca, Branson, MO. One couple just got off a cruise this past Sunday, their 55th or so.

Next time you are in St Martin, go to Orient Beach. Now THERE'S a Senior moment.

Milvet, I'm glad you "dropped" by and seen the "Senior" forum.

I am here at work and I'm going to try to reply QUICK.:)

I am older than both of you, but I like you feel much YOUNGER, and probably ACT that way at times.;)

You caught my eye when you said you were going to meet up with two other couples in "Branson, Missouri." Well that is my territory away from home as I live in Kansas City, Missouri, and we have a lake home just out of Branson. I don't know if you have been there before, but there are plenty of things to see/do, and also where you DO NOT have to spend money. I will mention even if you see a theatre, or are "curious" of the inside, just walk in, no one will say anything. Shoji Tabuchi (sp??) Theatre is a MUST for both of you, especially the "bathrooms." Silver Dollar City just celebrated its "50th" anniversary, and it is a must to see as it is like the 1800's. We were there to HELP SDC celebrate last Saturday. Also there is "downtown" Branson which is a neat place to visit, as well as The Landing which is a shopping strip along Taneycomo Lake. If you get a chance, rid the Ducks. They do the land/water and is great.

My friend and I just got back from a short cruise a couple weeks ago, I'm 67, she is 64, and they called me the "mermaid" which was very flattering to me, from the gown I was wearing for formal night.

If you have anymore questions about Branson, etc. just let me know.

There are a couple of travel websites that you can search by checking 55+ to find the discounts. The discounts change by cruise and sometimes checking back a week later reveals different results. On RCI's website you can search for 55+ discounts & state discounts, but you have to click on these boxes each time you search.

One travel agent we talked with did not know about them. I schooled him from having searched the web.

This is the first time I noticed this 55+ group. I got stuck in a rut going to the same thread sections each time I logged on. Had a little more time to look around today and found you all.

DH & I like good shipboard libraries and quietish nooks out of the sun. One HAL library had a puzzle on the table and we spent time waiting for the diningroom to open working on it. Real educational seminars or hobby sessions would be nice for at sea days. I am tired of going to talks only to have someone try to sell me something in the salon or spa.

Are there elderhostel tours in ports of call? Longer port time would be nice. Last cruise I felt like all they wanted was to capture us back to sea to open the bars & casino. Neither of which I frequent.

Cheers

Milvet, this is sort of a PS to what I replied to earlier.

I forgot to mention (you mentioned about checking out Orient Beach) that my friend and I DID check out Orient Beach a few years ago. That was quite an experience.:) Actually my friend was "loving" it, and I was getting so embarrassed, that I told her I had to leave NOW! While sitting on our towels (No we were NOT like the rest of them) several men would come by and "try" to talk with us, and I was "trying" to LOOK:rolleyes: the other way, if you get my drift. Finally she was ready to leave and go to the other side. It is a nice beach.
