Thanks for getting the price quote, I am wondering the same thing. The tour returns to port at 4:30 PM, ship leaves at 5:00 PM.

Thank you Yukon for reply. I am thinking about booking this tour but since it will be on a Wed. the only way to do it is bus up and train down. Any thoughts on this? Do you know if there is a stop at Emerald Lake?

While I prefer train up and bus down it's really not a big difference. Chilkoot does go to Emerald Lake.

Yes, my preference was train up but Chilkoot only does bus up train down on Wednesdays. :confused: I am sure it will be a nice tour regardless.

Just got back from AK on the Golden Princess. Skagway was beautiful! We did the short train/bus tour with Chilkoot and it was terrific. We got back 1/2 hour late, though.

BUS & RAIL EXCURSIONS

1) White Pass Summit Rail & Bus Excursion

Duration: 3.5 Hours

Departure: 7:30AM & 12:00PM

Itinerary: 1 3/4 hours on train to White Pass Summit & Fraser by train - Return to Skagway by bus

2) Yukon Rail & Bus Excursion

You can try www.frontierexcursions.com although I don´t think they do the train/bus combination tour.

 

I haven't used them as we did the Chilkoot Charters #2 tour but you might find something to interest you.

The lunch was barbecued chicken with jacket potatoes and coleslaw.

There were doughnuts for dessert.

It wasn't a substancial meal but it was well cooked and tasty.

On our cruise to Alaska in May, We took Chilhoot's #2 tour, loved it, the guide, the lunch, everything. Our best tour in Alaska. If I could figure out how to post a photo, I would.:confused:

For those of you who went to Emerald Lake, did you think it was worth it to go up instead of going right back down at White Pass?

 

I'm trying to decide which tour to take.

But I have one of those close to home in Calgary as well. I though the other interesting thing was the desert just the far side of Carcross. It is quite amazing to see the combination of environments from Skagway to the White Pass right up to Emerald Lake.

have you checked your cruiseline tour? they usually offer something similar. however, your bus transport will be on a big tour bus rather than the smaller buses that Chilkoot uses. Last year I do recall reading that the cruiseline tours don't typically go to Emerald Lake. However, I also remember reading that some of the bus drivers did elect to go that far. However, I don't think you can plan on it as a for sure thing. The Holland trip does not mention going to Emerald Lake in its description.
