Free Drinks and Free Upgrades?

Recommended Posts

I've cruised twice (never on Carnival) but I've never been served a FREE drink on either. Am I misunderstanding from these boards, or does Carnival give free drinks at their sail away parties and captain's gala?

We're planning to book the Glory for March of 2009. I'm hoping one of the July specials soon will be free upgrades - anyone think that might happen?

There are no free alcoholic drinks except at the Returning Guest Party and The Captains Party. You do get free juice in the morning and at meals but that is it.

If you are a past guest, you are invited to a past guest party where snacks and drinks are served for free.

Also the Captains Party also serves hot snacks and drinks. The Captains party is for all guests.

A FYI, you do not have to choose from the drinks that they have on their tray, just order whatever you like and most likely they will bring it to you

The only other time I was served free drinks was when I boarded the Fantasy. It was a Christmas cruise and there were all kinds of waiters walking around with glasses of champagne (yes free) on deck.

Nothing for sailaway though, except when I was on Disney.

When you board the ship, waiters on Lido deck are walking around with trays of special drinks, don't be fooled, these are not free.

Also you can get free Chamagne at the art auctions on board.

Sometimes the shop on board that sells alcohol will have a "tasting".....which can go on for a coupla hours. They serve tastings in those itty-bitty plastic cups but, if you stay for the whole thing, you might have a buzz on---for free. I've been to a couple and it's gets really interesting after the first hour or so.......:D

As we usually cruise during Christmas, I can say that on every ship, we have been offered free champagne on Christmas/New Years eve. Unfortunately, we do not like/drink champagne, but plenty of people were enjoying multiple glasses throughout the evening. I'm sure our "share" was enjoyed by other people! And yes, at the past guest/captains party, you can order any drink you want, and they will bring it to you. A few bucks ensures that the waiter makes sure your glass is never empty of your favorite drink - at least for an hour!!

Ahhhhhh "the good ole days"...

Back in 1992, on our first cruise on the Ecstacy, they had free "rum punch" party the first night near the casino. It didnt last very long, but I remember getting that first drink.

Now, we just save up for the Captain's Party and Past Guest Party.
