We recently stayed in the Balmoral and our butler (Anil) said that Rod Stewart once(or maybe more than once) stayed in the Balmoral with I think his son or daughter and his mother stayed in a Q5 down the hall.

The Real PM - He was my idol during my teenage years while living in England. He had a back-up group called the Shadows. Years later sat in the front row of the London Palladium Theatre for one of his shows. He once had a house in North London not far from where I lived. Would still love to see him sing live again!

 

John Cleese - we met him at the book signing on the QM2 TA September 07 - it was one of my DH's proudest moments when he made him laugh as he signed our Monty Python book!

 

We are looking forward to our next TA on QM2 in May 09.

On our cruise on the QM2 to Panama and the Caribbean in March there was quite a buzz that Cliff Richard, a good friend of Commodore Warwick, was on board while we were in port. The Brit's couldn't quite believe that we had never heard of him (even the young ones), but I didn't talk to one American who knew the name. I found out that he was rather like the British version of Elvis and was very popular in the 1950's. Anyway, as we left, I believe it was Barbados, he fired fireworks in honor of the QM2 and his friend, the Commodore, from his home as the ship passed. Does anyone have any more information about this celebrity?

 

Sir Cliff Richard is a bit of a British Institution! - He has managed to get a song to the 'number one' spot in the UK music charts in every decade since the 1950's I believe. He was around with the Beatles and I think its fair to say that Brits either love him or hate him!

 

Unfortunately he wasn't aboard during the March cruise to Panama and the Caribbean. But the Commodore and his family did spend their day in Barbados as Sir Cliff's guests at his home there. As the QM2 left Barbados in the evening Cliff was having a party which was attended amongst others by Cilla Black (another 60's pop star/celebrity) and Celine Dion. All Cliffs guests were out on his lawn as the QM2 passed sounding her horns. Cliff responded by setting off fireworks as the ship passed. I waved from the deck (along with many others)...and I swear I saw Cliff wave back at ME;)

 

My husband and kids chatted and played table tennis with Tony Blackburn on a previous QM2 cruise. He was once one of the UK'S top disc jockeys on the radio and on the TV. He had recently come off the jungle TV reality programme - I'm a celebrity get me out of here - he won it I think. And coincidentally Carol Thatcher was a guest speaker on the same cruise - she was one of the celebrities in the jungle with him. It was quite nice to be chatting with her whilst in the laundry!

 

We also met Sir Robin Knox Johnson on the QM2. He is a famous British sailor who was the first solo sailor to circumnavigate the globe or something like that! ( forgive me Robin!)- It was within the first few days of our cruise and he was looking for directions, studying the little map of the ship that you get from your cabin. My husband helped him find what ever it was he was trying to find - and both of them were highly amused when my husband remarked that he was surpriesd that he had found his way round the world on his own but needed help finding his way round the QM2!

I was on the QE2 with Sugar Ray Leonard and on the France with Mick Jagger.

Helen Gurley Brown and Dick Francis both lectured about their books on the QM2. Dick Francis was seated near us one day at lunch in the Britannia.

I had lunch one day in Britannia and someone at my table pointed out another table and said that's Frederick Pohl. He was impressed I recognized the name - Pohl is a scifi author.

Last year Leonard Maltin lectured on board the Norway cruise and I met his wife on a shore excursion and we've remained in touch.

I have never been very good at identifying celebrities off screen but on QE2 I saw: Ben Kingsley, Carly Simon, Regis Philbin, David Bowie, Jack Parr, George Kennedy, Tom Clancy, Colin Dexter, and Rod Stewart.

 

I heard that Uma Thurman was on one of the QM2 voyages but do not believe that I saw her.

 

We sailed the June NY to SOH crossing with Uma two years ago. She was on our deck with her kids. She was very nice (I have a great photo of the two of us at the weclome cocktail party). We've seen John Cleese, Karen Allen and David Bowie on QE2, Uma on QM.

Not Cunard but Gloria Estefan was on our RCCL Jewel cruise last year and Jane Seymour the actress was on our Independence of the Seas cruise last week.

On our 2005 crossing I met Steve Tomkinson and his wife (at the time) Nikki. Being from across the pond, I didn't know who he was - we actually had quite a good time together on several occasions - they were both very nice people and very smart dressers. I was sorry to hear that they had split.

When I crossed eastbound for the first time on the great MN RAFFAELLO, a long, long time ago in an epoch when liners were liners, I met and had several long chats with the Duchess of Windsor.

 

I met and spoke with Judy Cornwall ('Keeping Up Appearances') and actor Patricia Neal during my QE2 full world cruise 2007. I have not noted any celebrities aboard during my Queen Mary 2 voyages yet.

 

Some of the crew and officers can be exceedingly more interesting than celebs.

 

At 'the end of the day,' Cunard ships are the greatest celebrities, especially QE2.

We were usually the last to leave, and became friends with our wait staff and sommelier and restaurant manager. We had a marvelous time! We almost got caught singing one of Cliff's songs (We're going on a summer holiday, I think) when he passed us.

He ate in the Queen's Grill )Well, not every night) but for some reason passed through our lowly <G> Britannia haunts. He tended to sit by the Queen's bust in the Queen's room when he was in there.

 

Of course, I have seen a few other celebs on board, but shall keep mum. Heck we had a marvelous time partying with one with friends of ours last trip, not having any clue that he was well known, well-loved and further, on board to be a guest speaker later in the cruise. Who knew?

I bought it in Paris. (still haven't found it in the US) and popped it for my birthday Sunday night!

Hi All,

I met Bill Waddington (Percy Sugden in Corranation Street) on my very first cruise when I was 21 and I had no idea who he was! My friend knew and pointed him out and he was such a charming gentleman and did in fact aske me to marry him, said he would give me one of his racehorses!! Oh to be that young and slim again!

 

I've never met any hollywood type people but I've met Tommy Walsh who drank me under the table, well he is a big bloke and made me feel all girly and silly when he put his aram around me :o and Charley Dimmock, it was a garden themed cruise.

 

I've met Gerry as in Gerry and The Pacemakers and Gerrad Kenny Kenny (so good they named him twice) who sang his ode to Canberra and reduced the audience to tears.

 

And of course... the most important icon and celebrity of all... GAVBOY!

 

I'm still waiting to meet George Clooney... sigh, maybe one day!

Ok, it was on a Vrigin Atlantic flight from Miami and there were several of the other Pirates cast. She is so skinny and swears like a trooper, but such beautiful eyes!

Lansonlady and I were on the cruise, but we never met. None of the Americans that I talked to knew who Cliff was. But every Brit did. Happy you are back!
