Mountain Top vs. Paradise Point?

2 totally different views and experiences. If your ships docks at Havensight, you can walk across the street and take the tram up to Paradise Pt. You'll have a great view of the harbour, there are a few shops and a restuarant- sometimes with entertainment. If your ship docks at Crown Bay you'll have to take a cab to the tram- I would assume that if you booked it through the ship they'd provide transportation

Moountaintop is on the other side of the island. Home of the 'original' banana daquiri- a bit pricey, but you do get 2 bananas in it. Great shops with some terrific local stuff, a bar ( of course ) and fantastic views of some islands and the norht coastline. You will have to take a cab there, but you'll get to see quite a bit of the island along the way and maybe you can talk your cabbie into stopping to take pictures of the harbour ( almost as good as those from Paradise Pt)

The best deal is the "two hour" island tour offered by most taxi drivers, because it includes Mt Top plus other sites. Paradise Point is best done if your ship stays in port until after 6 p.m, because you can see the sunset and hear live music.

Paradise Point is on the mountainside across the road from the Havensight cruise dock. You can get there by taking a taxi up the hill, or walking across the street and riding the tram up the mountain, which is a great view! Paradise Point overlooks Charlotte Amalie harbor and has a great view of your ship. There are several shops with souvenir type items, and a small cafe. There is also a bar that serves the famous Bushwacker, which you must try if you visit Paradise Point.

Mountain Top is located on the highest point of the island and overlooks Magen's Bay, as well as provides a beautiful view of St. John and the British Virgin Islands, assuming it isn't too hazy. You would have to take a taxi, rent a car, or take a tour bus to get there. There are multiple shops at Mountain Top with souvenirs. Also, their bar serves the world famous Banana Daquiri, so be sure to get one of those! The bartender also makes a very good buswacker if you can't make it up to Paradise Point.

Both places have beautiful views. Obviously if you are docked at Havensight, Paradise Point is much closer, but if you have enough time, it would definitely be worth it to go to both of these places!

I've been fortunate to have been to both Mountaintop & Paradise Point several times:-). I can (without a doubt) tell you that Paradise Point is my absolute favorite. Here's why:

If your ship docks at Havensight, it's just a short walk (1-2 blocks) to the base of the PP Tramway. Once your on your tram it's a very quick& smooth ride to the top (about 5-10 minutes).

You'll see sevral signs while on your ride to try the "World famous Bushwhacker once you reach the top". This is NOT just a "tourist trap". DO be sure to try 1 (or 3). They're DELICIOUS!!!

There's a very spacious deck overlooking Charlotte Amalie harbor. (a great photo opportunity). There are are also a few souvenior shops that sell some very unique & locally made souveniors as well as a small restaurant. Eat, drink shop, take photos. When you're ready to leave, just hop on the tram back down. From there, (depending on you ships departure time) there's plenty of time to shop & roam around the Havensight area.

If this will help uou make your decision . . .you can check out the Paradise Point website here: http://www.paradisepointtramway.com/

Enjoy!
