For the life of me I cannot find the thread that said which flowers hold up while on our ten day cruise. I plan on buying some upon boarding or whenever I would be able to purchase some. Would appreciate input of any. Thank you. We will be on the Star out of San Francisco, Nov. 10th. Can't wait. We were fortunate to get one of the aft facing balcony cabins.

Daisy and carnations hold up very well. A filler of stat is also a good holder.

Princess also offers a bouquet that has anthuriums (red heart shaped flowers). These flowers have always done well for us both on land and sea and traditionally last at least three weeks - although last September, I had one that lasted over a month!

my daughter and her husband sent us the Princess Lily arrangement and they held up very well for our 9 day cruise and the room smelled wonderful !

We normally order the tropical arrangement. It lasts for the entire cruise, usually about 10-12 days, as long as I remember to water it. lol The only time it didn't was on a port intensive cruise when someone (UMMMMMM) forgot to give it a drink. ;)

If you look in the patter, it will tell you where and when the florists will be available. They will have samples of the arrangements you can purchase. You can add or ask them not to use certain flowers (like lilies which I am allergic too). They are always very helpful and they should last you most of your cruise.

Thanks you so much for all the great information, what about the prices? Don't want a large arrangement, just enough to brighten the cabin and nake it smell fresh, but then again, I will have the balcony door open probably most of the time while in the Mex. Riviera. Somewhere, I did read the prices are very reasonable. Didn't want to hike up to Safeway or Trader Joe's and worry about a vase after arriving at the terminal.

I think I got the medium tropical arrangement from the onboard florist on our first day out and it was beautiful....about $49.00 and it was so worth it....it did poop out by the end of the 9 days.....but I'm sure I had something to do with it because I didn't give it enough water....small detail!!!!

we renewed our vows in 2002 and the bouquet of flowers they gave me were to die for, i brought them home and had them on show for a while and then put them in my fridge and they still looked great 6 weeks later, i kept them in there for about 6 months and they were still recognisable , but slightly faded, but i think it may depend on where they get flowers from as we sailed from miami and they might have been from there, but if you sail from the caribbean it may be different flowers they use.

The Princess Rose Bouquet is very nice and held up through our two week cruise.

Just a reminder -- while you may take flowers on-board, it is illegal to dis-embark with any plants in most US ports and definitely in California.

 

Flowers are reasonably priced on board but I will check out the Safeway during the week.

Sultan SFO, thank you that would be great to find out about the price of the flowers at Safeway. Didnot realize you could not take plants or flowers into CA. I should have known though, we always go through a "bug check" when returning to CA from NV. Thank you everyone else for your answers and comments.

I was able to swing by at Safeway at North Point earlier this week.

Some Prices at Safeway:

 

Stem Bunches:

Assorted Inexpensive: $3 to $7

Carnations: $5

Roses (Yellow or Red) 10 stems bunch: $9

 

Arrangements (with Glass Vase --- looked heavy)

Inexpensive: $20

Roses (Red or Yellow) 1 doz: $30

 

Vases only were about $10 -- but they were all glass.

 

I also timed myself: From Pier 35 Terminal Entrance to Safeway: Un-hurried walk 10 minutes. Sidewalk is in good condition all the way and it is flat (no hills)

 

Wines at Safeway: Good bargains but need to have a Safeway card for the bargain prices. One can register for card at check-out -- no residency restrictions. DW has had a card for many years and we have never received junk mail from any stores based on card registration info. So Safeway is good that way.

 

As mentioned in Ports of Call -- Trader Joes is kitty corner from Safeway (parking lot).

 

Let me know if anyone needs more info.

we were in San Juan for Easter Weekend--only our favorite restaurant was open on Good Friday--even the Casinos die--we had stayed at the Sheraton in OSJ

 

Give us some ideas for things to have fun doing--How about a LIVE FROM

I am doing this cruise with my mom. She wanted to do a coastal as she has not been to many of the ports. I can't wait to take her to Butchart Gardens and San Diego, etc... We decided to go to Whistler before the cruise - so I am excited about that as I have never been there. The Mexican part was a last minute addition. I haven't taken much vacation time this year and decided the first week wouldn't be relaxing so we added that. The only thing that we have planned (on the 2nd week) is a beach/hotel visit in PV.

 

It has been 2 years since I have cruised with Princess... I can't believe it. I will try to do a live from if the internet is cooperating. I am bringing my laptop with me on this trip as I am usually not gone that long from work.

 

If there is anything else you want me to find out - let me know.

 

Glad you are doing well and that you have a cruise booked! I probably will only cruise at most once next year (fall foliage hopefully). I have 2 friends in Europe and would like to get there in April/May time frame. I will see if I can afford plane tickets then!

We haven't been on a cruise since September last year Panama Canal RT LAX--we missed the last 2 weeksa--John's BIL was dying and we flew back from Costa Rica--Thanks for rincess insurance--paid everythings--got a car for us from the port to wherever the airport was--I've always been an insurane believer--we're going on a land trip to Aruba next month--my daughter is finally gettin married a week from this Saturday at the Firstone Winery in Los Olivos CA--so much for us--this will propbably land this in floataway

Sounds to me like I will be taking a hike over there and pick some up after we check into our cabin. We arrive from Petaluma via Airport Express at 12:45, hopefully will be a quick check-in as we are Platinum. I now wonder if the cabin boy can round us up a vase, anyone know? Thanks again.

I could never had bought those flowers at safeway, or anywhere else on land, for that price, let alone as an arrrangement.

I agree - the flowers that Princess sells would cost me 2-3x as much if I was to buy them stateside. I love Princess' flowers - it would definitely beat anything I can buy at Safeway.

If you are buying ashore and bringing aboard I would suggest stargazer lilies. They last (at least for me) and they have a very pleasant fragrance that will fill the room. Keep in mind they have big blossoms. Look for stems that have the fewest number of blossoms in bloom as opposed to those that are preparing to bloom. The one's that have already bloomed will last only a few days.

 

You may also find that Alstroemeria (aka Peruvian lilies) will last quite a while, but they have no fragrance. The nice thing about these flowers is that even when they are starting to fade they look pretty good. You'll have more of a color choice with these and since the blossoms are small you can usually get more flowers for your bucks.

 

By the way, it helps with most flower arrangements if you change the water daily, and, when doing so, clip off about half an inch of stem each time. Cut the stem at an angle for maximum hydration area. Also, keep them away from windows or a heat source.
