FinelyCruising Posted October 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2004 Does anyone know when ships will be sailing there again? How much damage did that island sustain? I read some much about the others I really lost track about this one.

FinelyCruising Posted October 27, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted October 27, 2004 How extensive was their damage? Did they lose buildings or roofs or did they flood? I am happy to hear they are getting back on their feet. :)
tropicbird Posted October 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 27, 2004 Check this website out: www.caymannetnews.com The site is basically for Cayman Islanders, so you see lots of local stuff, but you also get the real word on post-hurricane conditions. For example, multiple posts on this board indicated the famous Turtle Farm was 'devastated', 'destroyed', or otherwise incapacitated. Apparently not true. The attraction sustained little damage and none of the turtles were harmed. (article from last week). According to another recent article they expect to have 1-2 ships/week starting in early November. The focus is to ensure that the rebuilt infrastructure can accomodate the visitors. hstrybuf Posted October 28, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 28, 2004
How extensive was their damage? Did they lose buildings or roofs or did they flood? :)
From what I've read and the pictures on the net, damage was extensive. Lots of flooding, loss of power, roofs and walls gone if not entire buildings, trees stripped of leaves. Some hotels won't even reopen until the first of next year. However, they are working hard to rebuild.
