Ontario Cruiser Posted September 26, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2008 Nobody ever mention Best Western Oceanside. I know it has mixed reviews on Trip Advisor but it is reasonably priced, beside the Sheraton Yankee Clipper which is on the beach. It is I believe quite close to the Sun Trolley , water taxi and has a buffet breakfast. We are going to stay there on Nov 4th for 3 nights. Don`t plan to be in our hotel room very much. We have airmiles to cover the costs. Check it out Ontario Cruiser
aarep Posted September 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2008 The Best Western Oceanside is fine. The complimentary breakfast is great and the sun trolley stops in front of hotel. Also the water taxi stop is just up the street as is the Bahia Cabana hotel. The Bahia Cabana has a great outside bar overlooking the marina and is a fun and lively place at night. LuvTheGoodLife Posted September 26, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 26, 2008 I think you need to whittle down your list of priorities: if a hotel is near/on the beach in FLL it is unlikely to have complimentary breakfast or any (free) shuttles between airport and hotel and hotel and port. (Though I was unaware Best Western Oceanside as mentioned above had free breakfast). Sheraton Yankee Clipper, Bahia Mar, Marriott Courtyard on Seabreeze Blvd and Doubletree Galleria are all near the beach and may meet your $250 price point in January but do not offer free breakfast or shuttles. They are all walkable to restaurants and nightclubs (at Beachplace) which also has a Howl at the Moon (singalong 'rockin' piano bar).
Jim B Posted September 26, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2008 Embassy Suites on 17th would be ok for most of your requirements but not all. # 3 for sure won't work #5 Might work if you can get a deal of some kind. #6. There are places around that might work.
Gathina Posted September 27, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2008 You are asking for the moon. Not going to happen, esp. in January. First of all, the majority of the hotels that do have what you want, for this time of the year (and other times of the year) are going to be in the 200.00 and up range. So you have to adjust your mindset. It is going to continue to be that way much of the year in Fla due to the economy and it is still a travel bargain esp. from those coming from S.America and Europe. My advice: look for a clean, comfortable, mom and pop hotel in Hollywood Beach area, cab it to where you need to go or rent a car...or budget your money and spend the money for the fancier hotel that does have these things. If you are staying one or two nights, you only sleep in the room, right, so do you need all the other frills? Spend less on the actual hotel and rent a car or taxi to do the other things. hopefully i can find a hotel with most of these:1.complimentary breakfast 2.near port and water taxi or beach. 3.airport or port shuttle or both. 4.restaurants in walking distance. 5.under 250 a night. 6.fun bar [live music,or karaoke]in hotel or very close by 7.drug store or other stores for last min. shopping our cruise is in jan. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 28, 2008 #10 Share Posted September 28, 2008 I would go to tripadviser.com I would normally recommend a number of nice hotels for you in Fort Lauderdale but your list has made that impossible. Decide what is the most important aspects of the hotel and then I would repost those. Keith
w99flash Posted September 30, 2008 #11 Share Posted September 30, 2008 Kieth, what can you tell me about the Wyndham vc Santa Barbara in Pompano beach? It will be myself, DH, DS (21), and 85yo mother. the 2 bedroom condo seems like an option instead of 2 rooms. It offers full kitchen and 2 baths. We plan to rent a car for the 2 days pre-cruise. Thanks for any available input!
cruiserbryce Posted September 30, 2008 #12 Share Posted September 30, 2008 we have stayed at the Embassy suites on 17th a couple times and have enjoyed it...it offers most if not all of the things you mentioned and at a cost much lower than 250/night
