CSIMelissa Posted September 26, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2008 Does anyone know of a private tour that will take us from the Le Harve cruise port to Rouen? What about getting there on your own? Any advice would be appreciated.
edinburgher Posted September 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2008 We had a very nice time in Rouen and a guide is really not necessary if you have some info and/or a map with you. You should find info and/or walking tours/maps online and in guide books. Googling something like "rouen walking tours" or "Rouen tourist info" is worth a try. And check the local Tourist Office website too. Frommers.com is usually worth a look and others such as virtualtourist.com The historic part is very pretty and much is pedestrianised. We took the train from Le Havre. Walk or taxi or taxi share to the train station if there is no free shuttle. The sncf website has online train timetables and is usually easy to use. Not everyone who already travelled there looks at the new posts on a regular basis. You would probably get lots more info on Rouen by using a SEARCH tool. SEARCH THIS FORUM is an excellent way of finding recommendations (and lots of general advice too) for your various ports. Once logged on, go to this forum, look on the right hand side for SEARCH THIS FORUM, click and all you need do is enter into the box any one of your ports of call. The search results will bring up all previous threads and replies containing that word. You can read these and find the info you need.
dcdee Posted October 4, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2008 We rented a car in Sept. There is a car rental office (Rentacar) at the dock where the Oceania ship docked. However, we rented from National Car Rental because we were able to get better insurance coverage. I could see the National office from our veranda but it is on the other side of the dock lagoon -- an 8 Euro taxi ride, as I recall. There is a tourist information office on the dock where we were able to get good maps of Le Havre and Rouen. The drive took about 45 minutes. There is an underground parking lot about half a block from the cathedral. We took the express highway to Rouen and returned on a non-express road through pretty farming country. The National agent drove us back to the ship when we returned the car. Very easy and a delightful day.
Missus Makkem Posted October 12, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2008 Does anyone know of a private tour that will take us from the Le Harve cruise port to Rouen? What about getting there on your own? Any advice would be appreciated. Its easy on the train, which is at the top end of Rouen, get a map and walk down to the river and take another route back. Great medieval buildings and lots about Joan of Arc there. Nice city.

Any advice would be appreciated. Melissa, Just as a suggestion, have you considered a visit to Honfleur instead of Rouen during you stop in Le Havre. I consider it the most picturesque small city and port in Europe – see http://www.carte-postale.com/postcards/honfleur_eng for complete information. Honfleur is located approximately 30 minutes away from Le Havre by taxi. I don’t think you will be disappointed by this wonderful little city – it is one of my favorites. Rare HeinBloed Posted July 13, 2009 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2009 You can go to http://www.lehavretourisme.com/Rent_A_Car_Croisiere_2008.pdf They have an office just at the cruise terminal. Subject you do not have an excess-waiver-insurance of your own: they do not provide. But you can easily book one idependently: http://www.worldwideinsure.com/WWTswitcher.php?policy=ERI&partnerID=128&partner=null There are also taxi tours available: which are available for walk-ins as well. But if you have a language request you better pre-book the car: http://www.taxis-le-havre.com/taxitour/abbayes.htm Here is the price list... http://www.taxis-le-havre.com/taxitour/tarif.htm You can also easily take the train: schedule from July 13 to August 30, 2009: http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Rouen-Le%20Havre%20-%20horaires%20du%2013%20juillet%20au%2030%20ao%C3%BBt%202009_tcm25-62022.pdf schedule before July 12 and after August 31 until September 17, 2009: http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Rouen-Le%20Havre%20-%20horaires%20du%2029%20juin%20au%2012%20juillet%20et%20du%2031%20ao%C3%BBt%20au%2017%20septembre%202009_tcm25-21583.pdf Rouen was great: Some impressions from our tour by car rental: http://heinbloed-cruiseguides.blogspot.com/2009/05/le-havre-france-private-tour-car-rental.html Regards, HeinBloed

Rare HeinBloed Posted August 27, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 27, 2017 Did you rent from the cherbourg port? I don't see a national in Le Havre National goes via Enterprise in Europe. But in Le Havre Port inside you have only RentaCar France. If you walk about 15 minutes you find few car rental companies in the city center.
