Port Lucaya marketplace or International bazaar

Will be in Freeport xmas day only until 2pm. Looking to go shopping and have a nice lunch with wife and 2 sons (22 &16)- Port Lucaya or international bazaar?

International Bazaar is all but closed down. It has very few vendor still milling around. Most buildings have major damage from the hurricane a few years back. Its never been resurrected.

Port Lucaya is vibrant and alive with restaurants, bars, shops and people. Not sure if shoppes will be open for Xmas day, but you'll find restaurants and bars open.

We were in Port Lucaya recently. We asked the locals where the best food was at and they directed us to Zarbos (not sure of spelling) Greek restaurant. The food was great and the price was better. $7.00 for a whole fried red snapper (nice size), rice and plantains. $10.00 for Fried conch (very nice portion), rice and plantains. The food was excellent and the service was great. Highly recommend you go there. The shops were ok. We thought the prices were going to be better here than at the other ports but they were not. We found most of the stuff we purchased at other ports way cheaper than in Freeport. Hope this helps.

Christmas day will be hit and miss as GBI has very strong church ties. If you are in town til 2pm and are not doing an excursion get a taxi to Our Lucaya (Port Lucaya) and see what is open. Some of the big shops may be open but not sure. It is a major holiday and many will take it off.

Some of the bars should be open but you will need to be heading back no later than 12:30ish to get on ship.

There is some shopping (very limited) at the pier that should be open while the ship is in port. Not much though.
