db777 Posted October 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Can anyone tell me if they have Green tea available on the Vista ships... or do we need to bring our own....DB777
Sleepladypalmdesert Posted October 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Dang, I can't remember. We usually had the HAL Darjeeling which is really nice tea. They bring around one of those little tea chests and you get to pick. I can't remember about green tea.
AtlantaCruiser72 Posted October 29, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 29, 2008 They had regular green tea when i was on the Noordam last summer. Not sure if the had decaf green as well or not. I know they also had several herbal teas too - Camomille, peppermint, etc. Overall tea selection was pretty decent.
JimVrhovac Posted October 29, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 29, 2008 They have wooden boxzes that are full of a selection of tea's. Have seen green tea in there. Most are Bigelow brand. Can have delivered to room by room service also Ruth & Jim
maxipup Posted October 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Does HA have tea-making facilities in the cabins?
Sleepladypalmdesert Posted October 29, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2008 No tea making facilities in the cabin....but you can have tea served in your room.
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 29, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 29, 2008 HAL does not have coffee makers or anything to boil water for tea in their cabins. You can get hot water through room service as well as Green Tea. The Lido is open 24/7.
maxipup Posted October 29, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks to both Sleepladypalmdesert and Krazy Kruizers. I do like 'tea' around 3 - 4pm, and gather that that is not available on HA ships. So I shall just have to settle for a cuppa instead. No biscuits/small cakes? Mary Ellen Posted October 29, 2008 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Check your daily program. Tea is usually served in one of the lounges (normally Explorer's) about that time.
skyedoggie Posted October 29, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Be sure to read the Daily Activities to find out when Dutch High Tea will be served. This will fullfil your desire for tea and cakes! Even accompanied by a string ensemble.
maxipup Posted October 29, 2008 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Now Mary Ellen, that's more like it! My husband has cruised with HA, twice, and he maintains that there's not tea at tea time, just 24 hr. hamburgers and pizza and iced teas. So perhaps that's only the Alaskan cruises that don't have this very civilised amenity!

So perhaps that's only the Alaskan cruises that don't have this very civilised amenity! We've done 5 Alaskan cruises on HAL. I'm pretty sure Tea was served at least on sea days. I know that at least the Royal Dutch Tea was served (in the main dining room) on one sea day each time.
iflyrc5 Posted October 29, 2008 #13 Share Posted October 29, 2008 As I recall you can Hot Tea, Ice Tea or Coffee at most any time of the day or night in the Lido beverage area. In fact I bring a large insulated mug to use rather than their tiny cups.
maxipup Posted October 29, 2008 #14 Share Posted October 29, 2008 I shall certainly show your posting to my husband when he returns. Perhaps that may start to revise his opinion of HAL?
maxipup Posted October 29, 2008 #15 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Does HAL provide sucralose, the artificial sweetener?
Mary Ellen Posted October 29, 2008 #16 Share Posted October 29, 2008 No. Sugar and Splenda (what I use) are what I remember. There probably was Equal (the blue packet) too. Sorry I didn't mention the 24-hr, always available tea, coffee, iced tea and on some ships - hot chocolate. I take them as a 'given'. One of the reasons I was SO ready to board the Rotterdam in Rio last January was for the iced tea. Apparently that isn't served in South America (at least in Rio or Santiago).
maxipup Posted October 29, 2008 #17 Share Posted October 29, 2008 I am happy to learn that HAL serves Splenda. Funny that iced tea, a hot weather drink, isn't served in some parts of S. America. I had been looking forward to quaffing it, while lounging on one of those sun chaises. But perhaps not, huh? Just that 26 days of cruising is a long time for not getting something. There was iced tea once Mary Ellen boarded the ship in Rio. It just wasn't available in the city. You'll be able to enjoy your tea while sitting on a chaise for every one of those 26 days. :)
db777 Posted October 30, 2008 Author #19 Share Posted October 30, 2008 Boy what great response...I will not be packing the green tea... now I can squeeze something else in...DB
RJBC Posted October 30, 2008 #20 Share Posted October 30, 2008 Yes, there is green tea. At least to start with. Sometimes things begin to run out near the end of a voyage. We bring a little extra green tea with us as it has been in short supply in some venues and later in the trip. We try to never miss the afternoon tea, but the time is limited. At least, HAL knows how to present it. Love the biscuts, jam and whipped cream.
Sleepladypalmdesert Posted October 30, 2008 #21 Share Posted October 30, 2008 Oh my...don't worry about the tea. You can drink it anytime. But...do go to the high tea. It is at around 4 and very nicely done. Lots of scones, little sandwiches, sweets, etc. And....at least once, have tea and sweets delivered to your room and relax with your own afternoon tea. I am a huge tea drinker. I drink tea all day long....and never went without.
maxipup Posted October 31, 2008 #22 Share Posted October 31, 2008 Thanks to all who have put my mind at rest re tea and cream tea. I shall now look forward to the 26 days of being on a ship - not my cup of tea (sorry!), but my husband really enjoys it.
