Port Douglas

Recommended Posts

We are cruising on Rhasody of the Seas n 11th November - we have quite a lot of port trips booked already. We have nothing arranged forPort Douglas as yet and think we might like to just do it on our own.

Can anyone tell me is ths possible ie how far from dock to town - easy access etc?? Any other tips greatly appreciated

Thanks

Barbara

P&O Australia has stopped cruising to Port Douglas, as weather did not need to become very rough to make tendering there impossible. They now stay an extra day in Cairns and bus passengers up for the day with an optional shuttle service.

I am not sure which dock the tenders go to. Most of the town facilites are based around wharf street. You can look very closely by satellite and even walk most of the streets on Google maps. Just do a search for "Port Douglas QLD" and have a look at the satellite view and street view.

Sorry, no specific tips from me, has been 20+ years since I was there. If I was planning a trip up that way, I would be looking to do something in the Daintree Rainforest area.

Hi Barbara, the Rhapsody will have to tender you in to Port Douglas, (about 20 minutes.)

where the tenders let you off is just a few minutes walk and you are in the main street. if you get there on a Sunday, there is a wonderful market right nearby.

the ship will probably have tours out to the Great Barrier Reef. Kuranda rainforest , The Daintree river ( to view crocodiles etc)

Port Douglas itself is not big. a real tourist town. souvenir shops, resort wear, opals etc.

hope you have a wonderful cruise.

kind regards, Lorraine:) :)
