newbiejay Posted November 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2004 Anyone have the real skinny on the Cays. We are on CP 11/27/04. Think there any chance the Cays will be open?
randolph Posted November 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2004 Man I sure hope it's ready soon. Our cruise is Dec.3rd and am optomistic, but all indications are not good. Guess that portion of the island chain got it's brains beat in. Wish the ship would replace the port with Nassau instead of another sea day. We love the beach and Atlantis casino there. queenL Posted November 5, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2004 I found out from some of the 11/23 Dawn cruisers that the Cays has been dropped from their itinerary. The 12/13 group has had it dropped from theirs also. We are on the 12/30 and so far it still shows us stopping there. Who knows!
Toto2Kansas Posted November 5, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2004 It really sounds like the Cays were totally devestated by the hurricanes. Personally, I doubt it will be ready to visit again until after the first of the year. Let's hope I am wrong here, but I wouldn't count on it. :(
Green4me Posted November 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2004 We are on the 12/18 Caribbean Princess scheduled to be there on Christmas day. Dear Santa, I have been a good boy all year long  Please Santa please bring us the Island back for Christmas. Thanks in advance,
CruiseFever Posted November 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2004 We are on the 12/18 Caribbean Princess scheduled to be there on Christmas day. Dear Santa, I have been a good boy all year long  Please Santa please bring us the Island back for Christmas. Thanks in advance, LOL. IF we don't get to go it might not be so bad. On our Star Princess cruise last week we lost Grand Cayman and Princess Cays and got Costa Maya and a sea day instead and it was a great cruise! BUT Dear Santa, I have been a good boy TOO all year long  Please Santa please bring us the Island back for Christmas
DEERINH2O Posted November 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2004 Since I am two weeks away from my Star Cruise, I am going to keep hoping that a miracle will happen and Princess Cays will be open..... I love private islands and really want to go, BUT I understand that no port is guaranteed, and a day a sea is better than a day at home!:p So Santa is your listening, I too have been good all year!!!!;)
Green4me Posted November 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2004 Chris, do you think they will do a sea day because of the holiday? It may be difficult to get an alternate port on Christmas day, not sure though.
MiamiNicole Posted November 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2004 Are all CP cruises going to San Juan instead of Princess Cays unitl the Cays are restored??? We actually prefer San Juan, hoping to be there on our CP 12/26 cruise, we find the private islands a bit dull and they are all the same (just our opinions), we are also spoiled b/c we are all from the beach!!! So, do you think the CP will continue substituting Princess Cays with San Juan? Thanks.
bphawk64 Posted November 6, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 6, 2004 We are scheduled to leave on 12/05 and so far I'm told PC will be open. I have been told that it may be open in less than 2 weeks.
Pam in CA Posted November 6, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 6, 2004 I'd rather go to San Juan too. Living right on the ocean, it's not a big deal to go to the beach (as long as the snow is gone.)
prarie cruiser Posted November 6, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 6, 2004 About a week or so ago I chatted with someone from Princess who told me Princess Cay was hit so hard they had even discussed abandoning going there. But, the good news is they are restoring it. The bad news is it needs a lot. It needs trees, buildings, plumbing, and lots and lots of sand. The person I talked with said the docking area was in shambles. Since all supplies and sand have to be brought in, it will take awhile. The other issue is that restoring a tourist beach area is pretty low priority compared to the devastation to other parts of the Carribbean. They said it was hoped that Princess Cay would be back on the intinerary by January, but the person I talked to thought it would be more like the beginning of February. I love going to Princess Cay. I had not booked a cruise this winter which included it, but hope it is restored and open soon.
Ella2 Posted November 6, 2004 #13 Share Posted November 6, 2004 I honestly don't think Princess Cays will be ready for our 12/4 Caribbean Princess cruise, even though it still shows on our itinerary (we all know how reliable the Princess information can be). It's a little sad for us because my daughter LOVES beach time and I was looking forward to seeing Princess's private island. BUT, no matter what, we'll make the best of it, and we'll do beaches elsewhere. I do hope we do San Juan (NOT Nassau) as a substitute, as I haven't been there and would like to see the port. Whatever, it's a cruise, and that's a GOOD THING! :D
