abhb Posted December 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2008 We booked air for our upcoming Jewel cruise with RCL. The Jewel leaves from Miami but we are landing in Fort Lauderdale. Is this normal? I checked Delta.com (who they booked us with) and there is a cheaper flight to Miami that gets in almost the exact same time. Is there anything that could be done? How long is the the trip from FLL to Maimi? Is it worth taking a cab or should we take the shuttle provided?
Sue L Posted December 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2008 the shuttle is included, definitely take it or it will be a 65$ taxi ride each way. It is one of the reasons it is usually easier to book your own flights. It is only a 40 minute ride from FLL to Miami
cb at sea Posted December 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 2, 2008 Did you book through the cruiseline? They may change your flight, but it could cost you. The taxi from MIA to the port is only about $24 and takes about 15-20 mins. The airline buys up "blocks" of seats--and just sticks you on the one that's most convenient (and cheapest) to THEM! You pay pretty much the same price no matter what it costs them. Next time, check into booking your own flights--it's almost always cheaper and you get a better selection suited to you! luvscruising2007 Posted December 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2008 We chose a flight into FL because it was cheaper for us than to fly into Miami. We actually got the "GO" shuttle for $18pp. If a shuttle is included in your airfare then take it. It really doesn't take long to get to Miami from FL. We booked airfare with RCL to VanCouver and the shuttle was included. It was very convenient.
abhb Posted December 2, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted December 2, 2008 We have always booked our own but this was a special and it was really cheap to book with the cruiseline. I guess we won't get on the ship as early as we planned:mad:
cruiserbryce Posted December 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 2, 2008 its only 30/40 minutes away...we flew into FLL when we cruised from Miami because of the difference in cost. Miami is typically quite a bit pricier

Why would an airline, that presumably owns or leases the jets that they fly, buy up blocks of their own seats for their passengers?
