mamaofami Posted December 19, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2008 Hope everyone stays safe. Airports in NYC already have delays and cancelations. It's snowing heavily here now, and we're about 30 minutes north of the city. I hope everyone left enough time to get to their cruises.

norcal2 Posted December 19, 2008 #9 Share Posted December 19, 2008 We've had snow in Utah for a few days but looking at the weather for the future it looks like one storm after another at least until Christmas Day. These storms will possibly get to you on the east coast if the lows stay in place so hang on.

Pfffffttttttt :D (as close to the sound of a raspberry as I can get) :D Seriously, though, I can't imagine how stressed I'd be if we were travelling now. I feel so bad for all the people who are going through this!

We received 10.3" of snow between Thursday night and Friday morning. On Wednesday our local TV stations during the News broadcasts had a list of phone numbers to contact the airlines that serve Madison to reschedule flights for Thursday and Friday. The announcement stated that you could rebook at no charge starting Wednesday. Flights from Madison generally fly to Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis or Detroit. Friday morning both Milwaukee and Chicago closed due to the weather.
ger_77 Posted December 20, 2008 #17 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Colleyberry - I hope you've got lots of food in your cupboards . . . Yahoo news is calling this storm system "Snowmageddon"! We haven't gotten out of our deep freeze yet,(-37C wind chill temps) but at least we're not going to have the 50cm's of snow that is being forecast for your area. I can't imagine what is going to happen to so many people flying through Toronto on their way to cruises; I'm just glad we're not among them. Smooth Sailing! :):):)
mudscraper Posted December 20, 2008 #18 Share Posted December 20, 2008 For the past few years UAL here in Chicago has been pretty good about rescheduling flites w/o charging extra when significantly bad weather has been predicted. Rich

I have been congratulating myself all day today.:D I ,like Cow Princess , can't imagine the state I'd be in trying to get to a cruise ship in this weather. I don't know how many days ahead you would need to leave with storm after storm happening. Cruise travel aside, weather like this can sure through a wrench into lots of plans this time of year. Holiday parties, kids home safe from university ,not to mention Christmas shopping. -37c yikes ,that's cold even for Canada, stay warm. Luckily I am all ready for Christmas just waiting for two kids and Santa to show up. :) Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Try living here for the winter. After the first storm you would be waxing poetic about the beauty of it all and the fun of making snowmen with your children. :) By the end of the winter you would be using language that would make a sailor blush:eek:. My language has started to deteriorate and it is only December. If only we could skip January and February (shudder) and go right into March and preparations for the cruise. Koshlong Posted December 20, 2008 #24 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Sapper1, that's why you cruise in January...........provided that you've got a couple of extra days to let you get there early. My brother- and sister-in-law are driving from Fredericton to Bangor and flying from there the last day before our Noordam cruise. It's the only way they could get enough time to do a 10 day. Ah, yes, I think I'm going to enjoy retirement!

Ah, yes, I think I'm going to enjoy retirement! You have the luxury of living in Canada's "Banana Belt" where spring comes early. On the coast here, we have miserable cold weather until June most years, with the occasional nice day thrown in. Granted there is no snow usually after the end of April but the cold and fog are the pits. Therefore when we go south in March we are taking our holiday right in the middle of the nasty stuff. January is too soon. We are not fed up enough:)
