AMAZING HOW RATES ARE GETTING HIGHER

It seems like it use to be, that when it got closer to cruise they went down, so as to "fill" the ship. But, I just checked on our upcoming cruise, out of curiosity since everyone is posting on here about the rates going up, and I'll say ours went up...they have same cat., same deck as price per person almost the same as we paid PER COUPLE. Wow!! That's a pretty big hike in price. Glad we booked when we did. Is everyone else seeing prices rise as well ???

I have seen the same thing. Our inside cabins on the Explorer went up over $300 per person after we booked. Thank goodness we got in when we did.

Shouldn't be surprising at all. The effects on travel from the tragedy of 9-11 are recovering, and the cruiselines have filled the increased capacity from all the new ships. Ships are sailing at 97-103% of capacity. This is the last year of massive newbuilds. Twelve new ships this year but only 3 next year. The cruise industry is growing by about 10% ea year and about 60% of todays cruisers are repeaters.
Expect more increases to a level where cruising is a good value, not a super cheap vacation bargain which in that last couple of years it has been.

Our TA told us that our September cruise would probably go down, but I haven't seen the prices change at all.

Math was never my strong suit.... but how does a ship sail at 103% of capacity?

Lets see. I am a CPA here and if you take the total passenger berth count minus the unfilled berths multiply that by the number of dinner seatings on the ship and round off to the nearest port, you can come up with 102.9%, so he probably rounded up.

It's not just RCCL. I've been checking several lines for a 2005 cruise with 2 of my GDs in either March or June. It may be out of reach this time.

Something else to look for in the near future is airline fuel surchages. And maybe in time a modest fuel surchage by the cruiselines. It is way too early to expect bargain fares in 2005. How in the world could the cruiselines or airlines know what their costs will be?

I think one has to watch and know what a good rate is. Example, I was able to do a Hawaian Cruise last December. Airfare and cruise was less than $1000 per person. Our latest cruise booked in early March almost didn't happen because of the weak dollar in Europe and high fuel prices. I'm glad I booked when I did, the cruise now is up $500 per person and the airfare is now very expensive, close to $400 per person and moving up. The bargins are out there but you have to track and watch different sights carefully. Tim

I must be the lone ranger in this thread. Our next cruise is still that same price as when we booked it. I keep checking because I was told it would probably go down. Well, it hasn't gone down but it hasn't gone up either. Of course we seem to be sailing at a decidely slow time, Novemeber 14-21.

I was planning on holding off to book our next cruise until we were onboard that November cruise. As it is with everyone saying their cruise prices are going up rather than down, I think I'll book it as soon as cabins become available.

Our JS in June has jumped $250pp in the last week. I kept hoping if prices dropped I could justify upgrading but the master and owners suites have gone up $600-$800pp so that isnot looking to hapen if this trend continues.

10th Anniversaty here I come.
